chefdilletante's tasting notes match my experience, although I didn't get as much acidity. Drink now for balance, versatility, and satisfaction, or wait for something deeper and wiser.

Big, musky/pungent, intense, lime-flesh/lime-oil, red & white-cherry, lavender, & violet. Beautifully clean apricot-y Botrytis. Creamy/slatey, nectarine & nectarine-skin, with a saline/mineral intensity. Finish & aftertaste is musky apricot, lime-flesh/zest. Great acidity - drinks like a big Spatlese, but I'm sure it's bordering on BA. Love the balance - 10.5% ABV - high acidity & RS. Big, elegant, complex, intense, & Beautiful!

Mouth watering acidity makes for a lively wine. Attack and midpalate are lovely, with honeysuckle, beeswax and apricot. Things tail off a bit in the finish (not a huge amount of minerality). Overall, this is an immensely appealing and versatile wine. We sipped after dinner but this wine would be equally at home with everything from shellfish to spicy Thai to washed-rind cheese.

Do I ever like this. Ripe nose with strong whiff of candied citrus and apricots. Smoky. Spicy. Palate starts quite sweet (but not rich) and the acidity is so high it feels like it is running forever. Finish lasts a minute. I love this wine. Totally my type of wine. Agree w earlier reviews suggesting this is an auslese from a different generation lacking some of the weight that is so prevalent in todays auslese.

Tasted over the course of several days, this has all the cut one could ask for, buffered by yellow and red fruit. It's aulsese in its style, though predictably in an older mode, where it is not full on dessert wine. Held up fairly well over the course of four days, though by the last glass the acid was really at center stage. Should have finished it up in three. Fine value as always from the Merkelbach brothers.

quick note. Popped and poured. light color, nose with predominantly grapefruit shining through. on the palate this has almost scorching acidity, but the fruit is there in full spport. the acids keep the residual sugar in check. we drank this at the end of the evening and a taste of this after a bite of lemon tart made my mouth water (maybe my eyes too). should be one for the long haul

Still very good, perhaps better than my last tasting. Well balanced, it could last for years. What a bargain!

This is awesome wine. Bright acid and dense ripeness consistent with the vintage. this has great balance. plan to wait another decade to try again.
