Purchased on Heritage Auctions. Dark ruby color. After 1 hour of slox oxidation this showed dark cherries, game meat, sweet spice. Medium acidity, well-integrated tannins, polished black currants and cherries, spice, some leathery notes and forest floor, some faint leathery notes as this starts to develop some tertiary notes. The ending is long and well-balanced by some oak that does not overpower but gives it elegance. A great wine in a great drinking window now. Drink in the next 4-5 years.

14.5% alcohol; we purchased it at the winery for $171 (includes a discount for members of Stag's Leap's wine club) on 9/16/2011 and have cellared it for over eleven years under varying conditions ranging from ideal to not so good; real cork, opened at Oak and Ember restaurant, Port St Lucie, Florida; long legs, very dark burgundy/violet; decanted and served at about 20 degrees C; the famed winery, known from the Judgement of Paris, sports a label with founder Warren Winiarski's signature; the winemakers have chosen superior grapes, derived from both volcanic and alluvial soils; the nose bowls you over -- dark cherry, generic cherry, and fruit which doesn't exist, obscure, mysterious, and inviting; full bodied with complex embroidered elements of non-light-colored fruits like cherry, plum, dark cassis, and boysenberry; muted tannins, due in part no doubt to the long cellaring, woven-in sweetness, fruitiness, sourness and minerals; an exceptional wine deserving a pairing with special beef steaks such as Wagyu or Kobe, or try with seafood hors-d'oeuvres like an assortment platter or jumbo oysters on the half shell

Splash decanted shortly before service. Dark red color with slight fading at edges. Deep, meaty nose, black cherries. Deep, intense fruit on the palate. Black cherries, blackberries, leather, tobacco. Sweet tannins, bright acidity, great balance. Finishes long and bright with dark fruits. Still young, give it 5+ years to develop and it could drink well for another 15 years. Became brighter and redder fruited, a bit of spice with food and air. 93 points with an upside.

Quite green on the nose with flavors of bell pepper, leather, cassis, black pepper, and dark fruit. Dark berries, plum, spices, and a little heat on the palate. Good finish. A good wine, although not exactly my style. QPR is not great, though...

Very deeply coloured with a deep purple core. Exotic, seductive and forward nose with masses of fruit, noble meat and vanilla. Concentrated but not a fruit bomb. Dense on palate with fine Margaux -like texture and endless finish. Wow...

Inky deep dark red all the way through. Rich to the nose: Raisin, spice, tobacco. Lush and chewy in the mouth. A finish that goes and goes!

From Enomatic, too young to fully gauge how this will mature. 92 - 94 was my first and consistent impression.

Napa 2011; 10/6/2011-10/9/2011 (Napa Valley, California): This is a blend of FAY and SLV. Fur, underbrush. Good berry. The only of the three showing some obvious cassis. Marshmallow, vanilla and Mango! Infanticide.
