Gorgeous nose of dark cherry and sweet mint. The palate is back to prunes though (day one), and hot prunes at that, so very different from the last bottle which was just great. You can see where the "only great bottles" comes from with this one, it has been quite variable and this was the least good one I'm afraid. Chateauneuf can be a tough gig these days, and the 15% is doing it no favours. Let's see what day 2 is like, and if it has calmed down at all. Edit: day 2 brought no relief. Might be destined for cooking now...

Opened, decanted through an Ullo filter, cleaned out sediment from the bottle with filtered water, and poured the wine back in. Let sit in the opened bottle for 90+ minutes. This was superb, and it felt like a very pure CdP experience. It was all sinewy fruit, Provençal spice (but not too much), and a feeling of bright sunshine. Smooth and caressing on the palate. A big jump up from my last bottle.

Opened to breathe for 1-2h. This is a big earthy oaky CdP, lots of sandalwood on the nose, tobacco, hints of pepper, baking spices, and heat. A velvet hammer of sweet red fruit, earth, tobacco, mineral, and black pepper. Great heft, intensity, and complexity. Tonight with grilled chicken. Just as lovely (and hefty!) on Day 2. 92/93

A great bottle. Decanted about an hour beforehand. Dark red. Really deep and rich fruit without being stewed in any way. Wonderful aromas basically from the off, filled the room with sweet berries and kirsch. Smooth and very pleasing, guests enjoyed it, drinking very well.

Deep red. Another classy bottle which was less evolved than a previous one - so interesting that bottles from the same case can do this. No hint of prunes here, just classic and solid black fruit - some minty overtones as you might expect, and some good leather and spice. Smooth finish, very easy. A very decent CNdP with some bottle age.

There are depths of black currants and raspberries, offset by peppery herbs, ashen stone and smoke, grumbling up from the 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Prestige. Its silky, elegant and round, yet lifted by saline-infused acids, showing cassis upon cassis, as well as arching lavender and violet tones that cake the palate in a sweet mineral form. There are still grippy tannins here yet they are sweet, perfectly framing the notes of rum soaked plums, balsam herbs and bitter cacao that linger. This is totally classic, in 2010 style, with years of development still in store. Of note, it took a full hour before the Prestige really started to shine.

Deep dark red, excellent fruity aromas, some smokiness and menthol. A nice warmth to this wine, and a less plummy bottle than the last. Very smooth and was equally as good on day 2. Quite a classical bottle.

Deep red. Classic CnDP aromas in the glass, herbal and minty. Very tasty indeed, sweet and succulent, but as others have noted there is indeed a plummy richness that is reminiscent of prunes but not quite prunes? Hard to place, but I think the impression is of slightly stewed fruit making its way in alongside the more classic bramble and black fruits. This makes it interesting, and it remains highly and deliciously drinkable, but it is not the stellar bottle that the JL-L 6* review (Dec 2011) had me believe, and I certainly don't think this has the legs to go to 2035-38, or even 2030 per CT; it seems much more evolved than that and I will aim to have these over the next 3 years.

Perhaps a bit on the older side, with decidedly less fruit (and more pruniness, if that’s a word). Noticeably higher alcohol. It is still tasty, and we were happy to drink it, though I’m not glum that it was the last bottle in the cellar.

A perfect pairing with the marinated tri tip. Stewed plums and a hint of heat on the nose. Medium to dark color. Bright plum, raspberry, ripe strawberry red fruit, Asian spices, minerality, excellent balanced acidity, medium tannic finish. Yum.

This bottle had previous notes but a slight bit of stewed prunes was in the mix...that leads me to believe it may be in or slight past peak.. Also could be a one-off bottle....also the finish is a bit more alcohol whiff.. Rating down accordingly but I am of the mind it was a bottle variance issue...alas I will never know as it was the last of its kind...

This a wonderful CNDP that is drinking very, very well. While I have no formal notes, the main observation was its elegance, and when something is elegant, that means everything has come together. It was balanced, incredible smooth, beautifully rich (but not overpowering), luscious dark fruit (with an underlying trace of sweetness), the right mix of spice and earth, and mouth-coating with a long finish. This wine could be enjoyed on its on, but it is definitely a food friendly wine. Its elegance should make it match very well with a wide variety of foods. Yes, it was a joy to drink. I look forward to a winter's evening by the fire with the next bottle.

Decanted it one hour. Dark red color, ripeness in the nose, white flowers, licorice, a bunch of herbs. Long lasting at the palate, kind of silky. Fruit is still present. It is worth to wait ten years for this wine. Full bodied.

Very refined and slightly sweeter than the norm, but firmly rooted with it's sense of place. This was in a great place for drinking. Super. 94

Oh yeah, now it is showing. Powerful red, great structure and depth, yet still soft, what a treat! Loads of dark fruits, jammy, white pepper, minerals, tailing off with some bitterness, smooth though, like it better than I tried in 14. Good stuffs.

Opened by Otis. 1st time I have had this wine. Decanted 2 hours before drinking. It had the highest alcohol (15%) of the three 2000 CdP's that we opened. Made in a new world style. This was much better on its own than with food. With food the alcohol and astringency dominated. Crammy texture and full bodied. Notes of kirsch, blackberries and toasted oak. 91 points.

The 2010 Prestige is a pleasure bomb, yet wonderfully balanced throughout. The nose show a rich display of violet-infused black fruits, smoke, lifting minerals, sweet spices, hints of seared meat and lavender. On the palate silky textures verging on velvet flooded the senses with notes of ripe black fruits, violet pastilles, sweet minerals, balanced acids and a hint of tannin. Balance was the key here as everything seemed to be perfectly set in place and maturing wonderfully. The finish was long, lightly structured, with ripe dark fruits lingering admist haunting floral tones and lingering minerality. Although it's drinking beautifully, There are many, many years of maturity to look forward to for this wine.

Very well balanced, non-linear (not a Grenache-or fruit-bomb) and delightful. However, I found it did need a double aeration to coax it and if guessing correctly will peak in 23 more years. That said, a nice slight break from traditional CdPs, well done Mr. Sabon. Cheers.

Color quite dark, light shone thru. Balanced but subdued right now. Just a hint of garrigue, slightly medicinal, warmth on finish. Light tannins and acidity but medium bodied. This comes across like a basic CdP at least right now.
A CdP :Lunch (ICASI): Purple in color. This is young and in need of cellar time. The nose has black cherries, roasted herbs, a dark chocolate note and black raspberries. On the palate, very tannic. Lots of black raspberry fruit. More of the dark chocolate. Come layered complexity Long finish.

Popped and poured at the end of the evening. Should have given this some time in the decanter. Very dark appearance, thick in the glass. Enticing nose of fig jam, chocolate, cassis. Lovely on the palate, with good structure, fruit and acidity. Give this a couple of years to evolve and become a little more complex.

Dark dense core with garnet rim; fig paste, mesquite, plump ripe red and dark fruit, almost almond, modern but not oaky; nice density on the palate, dark fruit then sour red, finishes with strong bitter Grenache note, smoky, mesquite, almost BBQ sauce, style resembles Clos St. Jean; tasty now but an earlier developer, oxidized on day 2.

A couple of CdP's (My home): I wanted something a bit younger and this was great. Certainly not yet at peak, it may improve a point or more, but delicious right now. Purple in color. The nose has black cherries, red and black licorice, spice and camphor. Complex and deep. Full bodied. On the palate, there is a lot of fruit and a lot of depth. Enough acidity to carry it all. Great lush texture. Juicy. It drinks very easily. Great showing now, but patience will be rewarded.

Popped a spare bottle as found these CT reviews a bit confusing. Glycerin! Basically. Popped and poured. Nothing special yet on the nose, some mocha. But the mouthfeel... I was expecting a tannic beast, but the tannins are beautifully balanced by the brilliant (balanced) structure, plush mouthfeel, density and that mouth coating glycerin. It actually was less enjoyable with too much air at the moment. Cassis and plums in the mouth, but this is all about the structure and mouthfeel for now. Brilliant wine, brilliant value and a brilliant future.

Filled with ripe and close to over ripe, sweet, fresh, pure, black raspberries, jam, kirsch, pepper and garrigue notes, The wine is lush, full bodied and deep, leaving you with a long blast of fresh kirsch in the stylish finish.
I said I would not drink too much tonight, but after tasting one glass I could not stop. Like many 2010 CDP"s this one is drinking in a beautiful manner, lots of Grenache fruit, currant, berries hint of vanilla with a soft long finish overall an A+++. This wine can compete with others at double or triple price points.
Soft and inviting and only slightly tannic. Very harmoneus and with perfect balance. Needs 5-10 minutes in the glass to show its very dark and dense fruit. After a while it's close to powerful, however quite onedimensional. Wait 2-5 year, is my estimate.

What a compelling wine! Aromas of lavender, rosemary, tar and pepper complement lashings of black cherry fruit, and on the palate this wine coats the mouth with layers of sweet fruit. Everything is in balance, with fresh acids and ripe fruit married in harmony. There is plenty of tannin, and this wine will, as Didier Negron puts it, ‘be interesting’ with bottle age, but it is not so forbiddingly backward as it seemed when I tasted it twelve months ago.

The nose was dark and brooding with black raspberry, seared meat, peppery spice, cedar, earth tones and hints of menthol. On the palate it was medium-bodied and rich yet structured with dense, ripe blackberry, plum reduction, and exotic spices. Dark fruit saturated the senses throughout the long finish as fruit slowly melted from memory leaving hints of tannin and spice.
I immediately fell in love with this wine. After an hour-long decant, the nose began to pulsate with dark, rich fruits. Although this is young, it can be enjoyed now, but truly needs a number of years to really shine. And shine it should, this was one of the most balanced CdP's I've tasted from the 2010 vintage.

Pop-n-pour with no detailed notes taken. This wine is approachable right now with fresh crushed strawberries and lavender on the nose. Palate is restrained and mainly savory elements, thyme and pepper, with the strawberries hiding in the background, behind a wall of fine-grained tannins. With exposure to air the wine gains weight and the fruit start to become slightly more prominent. Well balanced and easy drinking with no noticeable heat. Should only get better once the tannins have time to integrate.

Dark in color. A bit closed. Faint aromas of black currant, licorice and graphite. Pronounced tannins with flavors of plum, currant and anise. Definitely opened too early.

Great showing now, but patience will be rewarded.

this is a terrific wine. Dark restrained mocha nose. Very thick but not super tannic. Palate full of dark fruit. Great wine

Need more time in cellar. Very big and bold, complex, very young, strong tannins, spicy, and long finish.

Sweet raspberries medium full, light on the garrigue. Twiggy spicy medium body, pasty tannins, a bit thinner on the finish. Nice.

Really nice with great clean fruit profile and touch of tannins. Very approachable now or will be nice in 8-10 years.

Wonderful freshness and great depth of fruit. Opened up nicely after 3 hours of slow ox. This is a great example of the marvelous 2010 Southern Rhone vintage.

Great balance and beautiful aromatics. Fruit and acidity are in perfect harmony. A touch of cool minerality that keeps it nicely on the ground. Everything is in the right place here. Good QPR. Glad I have bought enough.

Elegant nose with fine acids, during oxidation develops nice freshness, acerbity and nascing embodied sweetness, elegant tannins at the finish.
