  • Really impressive wine at its peak. Beautifully balanced and complex. Dark fruits, long, seductive nose. The surprise of the evening. WOTN up against formidable competition. Has the profile of a wine that will last decades longer, but likely at its best now.

  • Lunch at Voyage (Voyage Patisserie, Singapore): Nice stuff. This was one of the better bottles of Potel's 2002 RSV that I have had. The nose was classic Vosne, with black cherries and plums, earth and wood spice, with a little kick of RSV's violets and a little shade of iron mineral at the edges. The palate was marked by fine tannins and bright acidity framing sinewy flavours of black cherries, blueberries and plums, again seasoned with a nice bit of powdery Vosne spices. There was a nice juicy, clarity to it, as well as plenty of depth and length. Some power too as it led into a full, round finish touched with some earthiness. Not the most elegant and filigreed example from the vineyard maybe, but this was very delicious. A yummy wine, starting to come into a nice drinking window.

  • Signature ripe extracted fruit. Dark cherries, sous bois, spice and some harsh tannins. Better on the nose than palate. Got softer with time but didn’t quite hit the heights.

  • A bouquet of cool array of black cherry fruits, some Asian spices and floral perfume. Fruits was ripe and felt rather extracted. Mellowed down and the oak became more integrated the next day I tried it. Such nice complexity of dark cherries, red berries, sous bois, coffee beans and dried autumnal floral. Velvety texture with a vivid dance of acidity in the background and terminates with a delicious finish. Though it didn’t have the GC intensity profile, it makes up for the layers and complexity here.

  • Chris' Birthday Dinner (Summer Palace, Regent Hotel): Very nice indeed - this was better than the last bottle I had a couple of weeks back. What a lovely nose it had, with drifts of fragrant Vosne spice wafting around a core of sweet dark cherries and plums, dried violets and slightly funky, meaty sous bois. A beautiful RSV bouquet. It was delicious on the palate. So elegant, with fine, velvety tannins and wonderfully defined acidity framing deliciously transparent flavours of dark cherries, red berries and plums, all infused with a lovely mouthful of Vosne spice, and just that little kiss of florals tracing its way into a lovely long finish. Maybe lacking a touch of Grand a Cru authority and power, but it was very delicious - this was a truly seductive mouthful drinking at a rather advanced peak.

  • Richebourg + RSV for Mike and Pete's birthday (Holland Park, Singapore): Third time round with this wine - and I must say it has been quite inconsistent. This bottle was back to the: Good, but not as good as an RSV should be, territory. Especially from a sterling vintage like 2022. the wine did have very nice nose of cigarette smoke, dark fruited plums and blueberries, earthy soil, and a lift of violets and vanilla at the edges. Somehow rather more advanced than the last couple of bottles I thought, but very attractive. The palate was fresh and lively too, with nice flavours of dark cherries, berries and plums, mineral and smoke drifting along into a decent finish. My issue with this is that it felt a bit thin, a little on the skinny side for a Grand Cru, let alone one from such hallowed terroir. A bit of a lightweight then, but it was very elegant, showing a lovely shape and transparency to it. Drinking very nicely too, if just lacking a sense of depth and oomph.

  • Richebourg & RSV (Mag's Wine Kitchen): Sous bois, autumn leaves, light spiciness, hoisin sauce, menthol and dark small berries, a touch muskiness that suggested this is quite a mature wine. The palate is slightly more youthful than the nose with good fresh as a 2002 should be. Bittersweet chocolate interplays with lovely acidity. Slightly backward and restraint with underlying umami sensation to carry on the overall mouthfeel and lightly gripping the palate with good juiciness and umami. Good but not at the level of RSV.

  • Liked but didn't love it. Pretty red and dark fruit with some spicy and oaky notes, but it doesn't have the depth or power I would expect from this site, or really, from any grand cru.

  • Roots , herbs and slightly spicy with dried tobacco leaves and potpourri. Cherry juice with stewed strawberries, some haw flakes and very smooth but with a tingling finish

  • Welcome Back Kelvin! (Kelvin and Joyce's Place, Bishan): A good wine indeed, but ultimately a little disappointing for an RSV from such a strong vintage. It must be said though, it is not the first bottle of Potel RSV that has failed to bowl me over. This did have a beautiful nose; very floral, with perfumed roses strewn over lovely red cherry aromas, and then a little undertone of sous bois, a twist of menthol and nice bits of spice running alongside - beautiful. The palate seemed to be at a really good place, with a soft, melting feel to it lent by the finest tannins and perfectly integrated acidity. It was fresh, yet was nicely integrated; possessed a nice backbone, yet had a pleasing suppleness to its ripe, sunny flavours of red cherries and raspberries - really pleasurable. The midpalate was rather less generous however, with the sappy fruit taking a back seat to shades of sour plum and orange peel and dashes of wood spice. I thought this had nice complexity, but it lacked some of the layered depth of a good Grand Cru, especially for a vintage as strong 2002. This even clearer at the finish – there was a lovely freshness here, but it felt rather less integrated and was a lot more austere than the nose and attack promised, going slightly bittersweet with a tail of minerally earth and roots at the end. A very good, but not quite up to expectations when unblinded. One to try again maybe in 5 years time – I am not entirely convinced at the wine's potential to age, but it will hopefully flesh out more by then.

  • Not too impressed. Blind would have guessed village or lower-level 1er cru.

  • Light ruby color, blood/rust nose, red fruit, first taste is a bit tight high acid cherry flavor! Still integrating

  • 2011 Simple Dinner Series 14 :: Ed's big day (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, The Forum Shopping Mall, Orchard Road): Alcohol :: 13.5%
Medium ruby red with light hue. Tighter than the roty but deeper and larger scale. The nose is still rather primary that loaded with fresh plum, blackberry, haw flakes intermixed beautifully with Asian spiciness and earth. Harmony, though not big scale but perfectly balance, razor sharp focus and precision, beautifully layer with polished structured that leads to the truly fine tannin for the grip, long lingering finish though not still a little bit shy. This should continue to evolve in the bottle for a decade and I hope will gain better weight in the bottle too. 92-94

  • Perfumed sous bois on the nose and the palate - very earthy but still silky and pedigreed. It's not a top tier grand cru,and looking at the label you can be somewhat disappointed, but it is still a decent drink and the first 30 minutes or so it showed some energy and complexity before coming down to maybe a lesser to average 1er Cru level quality.

  • Balsamic-y in the nose with too much VA in the flavors for my heightened sensitivity to that. Others were OK with it but nothing more. Score based on my impression. Hope this was an abberation.
