Good structure and balance. Needs no decant and performs well after opening. Don't expect too much fruit nor complexity in the nose. The palate shows well integrated tannins and a good structure, but there is a little bit missing. All in all good but not great!

Moderate fruit and tannins remain. Passed its drinking window, perhaps because of the vintage. Thin in mid palate with faint raspberry and cassis fruit, black pepper, tobacco and pencil.

Mature nose with fruit (cherries) with wood, savoury, forest floor and marzipan. slightly aggressive on palate despite concentration of fruit (alcohol?). Fresh with overt, slightly sharp tannins. Longish finish rather dominated by over extraction with oak overpowering fruit. Not sure what is going to happen over next few years.

Really elegant and typical right bank claret. A bit closed to start with, but over time it showed nice features of dark cassis fruit, tobacco, leather and a lingering, refreshing and elegant finish. Too bad this was the last bottle. 92 for now, but with potential for a higher score.
Full bodied, gritty tannins, black berries, cassis, red currants, floral aromas, hint of pencil, integrated oak and tannins. Long in the finish. Complex. Needs at least 5 more years.

(Decanted for two hours, but was at its best after four hours) Deep red colour with a hint of a blue red rim. Incipient maturity on the nose showing blackberries, leather and with a warm and peppery note as well. Palate still with somewhat austere tannins that need more time to soften, primary fruit is starting to dry up and tertiary notes of leather is beginning to appear before the nice and warmer finish showing Corinth and morello stones. This is not your typical classic St Émilion, but a warmer and sweeter version, still evolving very nicely and should move into more tertiary dominated notes over the coming decade. (Best 2019-2034)

Attractive, ruby red in colour. Bright and lively. Sharp, fresh raspberry/red fruits on nose. Somewhat dimmed. Fresh palate of red fruits. Lots of very fine tannins. Unfortunately the fruit does not hold up through the mid-palate and the long finish is dominated by tannic, weak, forest floor flavours. A disappointment still and unlikely to improve.

Open 4 hours before and then decanted for an hour. Dark deep color not showing any evolutions. Expressive smells of ripped dark berries. Fruity and concentrated, a little bit over extracted. Tannins already well integrated. Excellent length. Full body, parkerized, still very young... missing some "finesse" I'll visit the next one in 10 years. On day 2 (wine was decanted) it was more approachable.

Very intense Bordeaux upon opening. Tastes, smells and feels like a heavy California cab! An hour in the glass gave it some time to travel back to St-Émilion... ;)
Two years after the last one I tried, this hasn't improved, in fact it has regressed. The stodgy syrupy flavours have taken over and the 14° shows from start to finish. One glass was more than enough. 91 from RMP?! Oh well.

nose - red licorice, strawberry mouth - very pure, very classic, nicely settled in with harmony, very mellow red fruit, plum predominant, almost creamy on the midpalate, with a good interplay of acid and tannin on the finish. This is a classicist's bordeaux with a modern flare; nothing frumpy, vegetal, or too funky going on here. not fading anything soon but perfectly in its drinking window at age 12.

Very stodgy and syrupy at first, but after four hours in a decanter there was a distinct improvement. Quite heady, concentrated and viscous, with blueberry, raspberry and dark cherry flavours, the fruit is enjoyable but there's a lack of freshness and elegance that I found disappointing. Better than 03, which is perhaps not difficult, but compared to the B-Bs of the 80s or 90s this is disappointing. A wine like Aiguilhe does the same job at half the price.

Charming. I really love '04 from the right bank. medium bodied with fine supple tannin. Started performing right out of the bottle with no decant. Forest floor, mushrooms, baked berry, smoky cherry, currant leaf, dried herbs, floral. Very aromatic. Good acidity. Great early drinking vintage.

Well balanced with classic varietal flavors of cassis, dark berries, pepper and herbs with a touch of mineral and mint. Still young and evolving, it shows good pedigree and promise. There is a good 10 years left on this wine, but I enjoyed it now for its young, exuberant fruit.

Decanted for 1 hour plus on night 1. No doubt a little modern in style but not completely. Had the upfront fruit - both red and dark - but had some earth elements as well. Good on night 1. Second night the fruit had softened and really didn't speak to me, just ok. Still have 1 glass left so we'll see. No flaws and probably a crowd pleaser, just not what I look for in Bordo. Will give remaining bottles some more time in cellar. 14.5 abv.

Kurk was in perfekte staat. 91

Dark ruby in the color. Decant for 2 hour and brought out the aroma of rose, bush, plum. Mint, raspberry, cherries on the palate. Earthy, had strength but not too strong. Very classic. A little harsh but good now, will be better the next three years.

Clear red. Herbal and berry nose. Good balance but still harsh tannins. Quite edgy. It reminds my of the 2004 Troplong Mondot, which I think is at risk of drying out. I do not expect this wine to get much better with age. Time will tell....Drink now - 2020.

Dark ruby/black in Colour. Very young looking. Crushed rocks, roses and blueberries on the nose. Beautiful expression but only just emerging. Still very closed on the palate, black fruits and some deep tannins with a touch of harshness. I think this will integrate in another few years. Still has good potential and this is a chateau to watch out for!

CT Texas V - North Dallas Forty and then some; 5/3/2013-5/5/2013 (McKinney, North Dallas, TX): My favorite of the Bordeauxs. Nose of violets, blueberry, black cherry, and red cherry with hints of cigar box. On the palate, dense plum and cherry flavors with blueberries, plum, vanilla, and cedar. Finishes with decent grip and nice acidity. I think this has decent upside, should be better in 3-4 years.

Decanted 2 hours and rebottled. Dark fruit and coffee on the nose. Medium plus body with nice blueberry and plum fruit profile. Notes of coffee, leather and a little oak. Nice balance with just enough acidity. Fruit persists nicely through the mid palate. Finish is about 25 seconds with some grippy tannins still showing. Very nice bottle and a good QPR. May get better with some additional cellar time.

My first 2004 Bordeaux. Let breathe for five hours. Pinched nose of violets and a tad of vanilla. Lusty palate of blueberry skin, plums and a creme de vanilla note. Medium plus finish, acidic cut and refined tannins. Somewhat drying finish. This will be even better in 3-5 years. It seemed to tighten up over time. The tannins will soften. Impressive at any price and especially for the $25 I paid for it on clearance a few months ago. A lovely foil to a grilled garlic smashed filet mignon, buttered mushrooms and twice baked potato.

starting to come around. Oak has integrated but fruit has shut down. The nose is ripe and grapey but fresh. The palate is all minerals, its like drinking lime stone, no fruit. With an hour or two of decanting the plummy merlot fruit comes out.

Appearance: bright, clear, with deep intensity ruby color. Legs on glass.
Nose: clean, medium intensity, developing aromas of red and black fruit: red cherry, plum, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry; vegetable notes of leaf, potato; sweet spice and oak notes of vanilla, cloves, nutmeg.
Palate is dry, medium acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol and medium body. Flavor intensity is medium + with aromas of red and black fruits: cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, sweet spice and oak notes of vanilla, cloves, nutmeg and vegetable notes of leaf and potato in that order. Length is medium.
Quality of wine is good. Aromas and flavors on palate are complex. The flavors are of medium intensity. The acidity and tannins are above the fruit flavors on the finish making the length medium. The balance of the wine is not quite in harmony with the acid dominating the finish. The structure is angular.
The wine is of 4-6 years of age and can be drunk now but will peak in 2 years.
Guess: Bordeaux Cru Beau, Left bank, Cabernet based, bit of age, 2005 vintage, $40

A bit of perfume on the nose; on the palate however, this is disappointing, with bitter flavors - not anywhere near as harmonious as the 05, and not as good as the 06. This is more open and ready than the 07, but I believe the 07 may well turn out to be the better wine. This wine feels like it may struggle to have its fruit outlast the tannin to become pleasing, in the same way that many 1995s are failing to blossom.

All the elements seems to be there, but very much in a twixt tween state. Beautiful nose of wood and red fruits. Plenty of fruit on the palate, albeit with a certain acidic harshness when first opened. One hour on the wine had softened somewhat, but all in all, I would let this sit for a few more years.

This is going to turn out to be a good bottle of wine but its not great right now. The oak is currently smothering it. There's nice fruit and acid to keep it balanced in a new world meets old world sort of way. In time, 2-4 years, the oak should intergrate and this will be a nice wine justifying a higher score. This may sound ridiculous it reminded me of a cool vintage of Ornellaia?!

World Cup Tasting - Brazil vs The Rest of the World (Aston's Prime, Joo Chiat Road): 50% Merlot, 40% Cab Sauv and 10% Cab Franc if I am not wrong. Very modern, Michel Roland style. Nose opened with toffee, burnt caramel, and underlying cherries and plums. There was a nice savoury broth-like quality it as well - suggesting that the wine was just begin to move out of childhood. Palate was very young still, tightly wound up at first and just showing flavours of sweetish caramel in a nicely balanced package with good freshness and very fine, plush tannins. WIth time thought, flavours of seet plums, chocolate and bittersweet black licorice started to emerge. This was lagging behing in its flight, but was eventually voted as the favourite. Nice, longish finish too. Very silky and polised effort, just lacking some oomph and character.

Tight plum and minerality on the nose with dark berries and toasty oak. Big tannins. Nice structure. Great dark berry flavors with spicy peppery finish. This is just too young. Not fully integrated. It seemed to be more approachable immediately upon opening and then became more tannic and hard as it remained open. Odd, but also happened on the '05.

Decanter Fine Wine Event - St Emilion Premier GCC Masterclass (Landmark Hotel, Marylebone, London): Opaque ruby/purple core, very narrow rim. Quite oaky at first on the nose but settled down to show spicy, plummy fruit. Certainly open and accessible. Not quite the same wine I remember tasting a few weeks ago. Smooth with lots of vanilla and oak and a solid core of fruit. However, this needs some time for the tannins to integrate. A nice finish of olive and earth. With 16 hours of air this wine was a much sweeter and more approachable wine.

Three Ladies of Bordeaux (San Francisco): What a wine! Fragrant with very strong berry and cherry flavors. Smooth and approachable with a medium length finish. I could not believe this was a 2004. Where were those monster tannins? I imagine there will be some who think that the sweetness and fruitiness of this wine panders to an American palate. Pander away! (Also, when Ms. Becot personally helps you with the pronunciation of the wine's name it certainly adds to the enjoyment of the experience!).

Elegant wine. Much more tannic than expected. Herbs, oak, and blackberrry. Very restrained. Drink or hold.

14.5 abv.

Wine was tasted blind.

Big tannins. Nice structure. Great dark berry flavors with spicy peppery finish.
This is just too young. Not fully integrated. It seemed to be more approachable immediately upon opening and then became more tannic and hard as it remained open. Odd, but also happened on the '05.
