Elegance personified. Not a big Musigny, but so ethereal and one with latent power. Fruits vacillate between red and blue. There is a hint of earth and a scent of violets. It has fine detail and a cool, stony base. It builds through the palate and fans out and leaves a highly perfumed calling card. Great balance and fabulous minerally acidity.

It's always such a treat to try such legendary wines. This was slightly hazy, light ruby to garnet in colour. More masculine than the Comtes Vogue Musigny drank alongside. This came across as a lean vintage which suits the palate of many of those we drank with. Green herbaceous notes. Whole bunch perhaps? Slightly corked? Lots of green tea. VO birthday

Red Burgundies With Allen Meadows (Eleven Madison Park): Quite different than others, gamey meats, cooking spices, drying cherry and raspberry fruit. Fairly spicy, but more like ketchup, savory and advancing. better on the palate with plenty of secondary dried berry flavor and pleasant tannins providing good support. Hmm... not moved by this, farther along than it should be.

"SG50" Dinner - A dinner to mark and celebrate 50-years of nation building! (Jade Palace): Straight out of the glass, this was at once musty & funky. Oh dear, was this the first "lemon" of the night? Decided to let it sit... And good that I did, coz it was almost a different wine towards the end of the dinner, with nice mature scents of earth, soil, black-tea, iron/blood. On the palate, this felt sappy, with coffee & damp-earth notes. This might've plateaued, & I doubt it'll improve further in bottle, but it should certainly hold for more years to go. Drink & enjoy!

A memorable dinner wtih Barolis and Burgundy (Fleet Street Kitchen - Baltimore, MD): Always go with your first instinct. Initially a small pour, slight hint of TCA but the palate displays floral note and quite fresh so I changed my mind. It is slightly corked but there is beautiful floral note as well as lean, polished and precise Musigny fruits.

At home after a 1 hour decant with lamb shanks and very old friends. A kind of rich austerity if one may be allowed such an oxymoron. Beautiful old brick color. Endlessly interesting as it evolved through the evening. Packed, powerful but also subtle. Endless finish. Among the the greatest Burgundies I have ever had. Worth all the frustration of the many disappointments these wines can bring.

Wasn't my favorite at all, I just not a huge fan of Mugnier in general. Some rubber notes were off putting and sitting in the glass for an hour brought some alcohol on the finish. Just not my cup of tea.

Tasted side by side with an 88 Mugnier Amoureuses. During the first half hour to hour, the Musigny showed better. But the Amoureuses had legs and at the two hour mark it was the equal or better wine. I like 88's a lot, and this was a very enjoyable duo.

Drank along side the '88 Mugnier Les Amoureuses. Both showed great but the Musigny out classed it's sibling. Great nose with good fruit and the palete was well structured with dark fruit, spice.

At the pinot offline at the Union League in New Haven. I've never had a Musigny before, so I don't know if this was a classic example or not, but it was beautiful. Bright ruby. Some barnyard on the nose. Elegant, but seemed to dry out as it sat in the glass. Great wine, but to me not quite as nice as the Clos de Tart. Perhaps it's just past it's peak.

Incredible. So fragrant, fresh and vibrant with an exceptional finish.
Drank side by side with an 83' Cheval Blanc.
