Mostly Domestic Wine Dinner (The Capital Grille at Tysons corner, VA): The second time having this wine with the similar impression. This is incredibly big and also shows noticeable heat. Totally over the top but the fruit is a bit straightforward. Every TNs are above 95pts. Just take my TN FWIW.

Had at Nadia's birthday celebration in our home. Deep dark purple in color, just a beautiful wine. The nose promises an enticing experience and the wine really delivers on the palate. Great purity and concentration. The finish was pure silk, just a treat to drink. I clearly opened it too soon, as this wine would benefit from at least five more years in the cellar. Decanted three hours before dinner.

Recently had the chance to try the 2010 Chimere which is the inaugural release of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape made by Manfred Krankl jointly with Vincent & Paul Maureen of Clos Saint-Jean fame in conjunction with Phillipe Camble. This magnum was decanted over 30 hours and is it ever a big boy wine. The aromas of blackberry boysenberry dark baking spices and dark plums. The color was inky jet black even after Day 2. It is 95% Mourvèdre, 4% Grenache, and less than 1% white Grenache. Only 380 magnum were produced. On the palate it was silky earthy dark black fruit driven with a medium finish. I got hints of the boysenberry and raisin like qualities. Soft to medium acidity and very very ripe. I think this needs another 10 years to fully develop. 95 points #sinequanon #sqn #chimere #2010 #manfredkrankl #clossaintjean

Jailbreak Brewery restaurant opening SQN wine dinner with Justin Bonner (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): This seems to be in an awkward stage. Medium expressive nose displaying overripe black fruit, a hint of oxidative note, fruitcake, dark spices, lavender, ink and earth. Excellent concentration, overripe slightly raisiny black fruit, silky and polished, medium acidity, earthy mineral, and a medium oxidized black fruit driven finish. The style reminds me the 89 Henri Bonneau Cuvee Speciale. Hopefully it will develop similarly for those who like the ripe style. Needs time. Very divisive wine for sure, YMMV

The pièce de résistance, what wine could live up to the expectations. First sip, Tom said it first, Bordeaux like. Than an hour latter, very smooth, bacon without the greese, just a dry velvet memory. Than after sipping others and returning, I'm thinking James Bond, diamonds are Forever, the perfect Claret. Than the Rhone rises up, I'm thinking CdP but not, its not CdP, its a Chimere. A wine that hints ant teases, but always pleases. If you have one, first sip you will question, last sip you will want more.

Sine Qua Non Dinner, volume II (Maloney & Porcelli, NYC): how could this not be a letdown (and how spoiled are we that a wine i score 95 seems like a letdown?). this was beautiful. lovely black fruits, meat, and smoke. but it was painfully young -- especially coming from mag. still, a wonderful finish.
Wow nose of bacon and ripe red peperonis, roasted meat, a hint of vanilla, hint of coffee... taste is very smooth with tons of silky tannins, animal... it is incredible how Mourvèdre can be soo good at this young stage, it is almot feminine!!
I was very curious to taste this first shot. The wine is assembled of 95% Mourvedre, 4% Grenache and 1% different white varietals. Expecting a very strong, mouth-closing, difficult-to-understand wine, I could not have been more wrong. This pearl is the Mourvedre analogue of the Sanctus Sanctorum. Its freshness opens the roads to mint, pepper and provencal herbs while being joined by a velvety structure that undermine any doubt on this wine’s femininity. It is very provocative; however, this wine is so seductive that it will open the valve to a new wave in Mourverdre-based wine making. Kudos to the Maurel Brothers, Philippe Cambie, and Manfred Krankl.

Decanted all day and still closed and sharp. Not as full throttle as you would expect. It is not a waste to open now but needs ten more years.

Spectacular. First sip made me think 1st growth Bordeaux. Pristine. Terrific velvety texture. Deep red fruit. A powerhouse. Wow.
