From Magnum. Took about 45 minutes to open up and was then showed prominent fruit, vanilla, wood and forest floor nuances. At times the wood seemed to dominate, but overall balance was ok.

September 2008 FWR Tasting (FWR, Toronto, Canada): Popped and poured. Dark ruby colour. Aromas of vanilla, spice, dark fruit - black plums in particular. Restrained on the palate with some minerals and dark fruit. Good finish, ~30s with replays from the nose and palate. Could use a good amount of slow-oxygenation or better yet, another 1-2 years in the cellar. Drink now-2014.

Opened at Otis' CDP. First time I have had the 1998. This wine had a rose petal aroma. On the palate I noted cassis, black cherry and some truffle. Frim tannins and medium to full body. I liked this wine better than the 1995 vintage but not as much as either the 1997 or 1999 vintages. 91-92 points.

Deep claret, clear core, bright. Lovely nose, cedar, sweet dark fruit, complex. Good attack, lovely fruit and almond creaminess. Very good length and balance. Med tannins; will last a bit. Slight bitter finish… its Italian after all!. Ex

A more accessible '98 Brunello. The fruit is quite forward and fairly ripe. I would say it has the structure for mid-term aging only, but would defer to someone with experience with older vintages of this wine. Not over-wooded. A very good wine.

Cherry and mushroom with a touch of leather cola and plum on the nose and palate. Huge depth complexity and balance. Awesome.

Past its peak. Still enjoyable but not nearly as good as some other 1998 I've had. The cork was in okay but not great shape.

Last one.
A little over the top. Fruit was pretty well flat and tannins ok.
Drank like an old wine... (duh?).
The 97's seem to be hanging better.

Nice wine with the meaty, savory flavors I enjoy from brunellos. Not a blockbuster, but quite tasty and still in a good place.

Dark moccha chocolate, leather; still very powerful, can probably age for > 5 years, preferably with food (beef or similar)

Consistent with last tasting. Decent but not the best brunello we've had lately.

Meyers, Pierces and DiSerafino's - just a tasty wine once it opened up with a great crowd and great meal.

Nice brunello. More richness than I was expecting, and a mocha note. Drink now through 2011.

RICH BERRY FRUIT AND LEATHER IN THE NOSE. LICORICE, BLACKBERRIES, AND BLACK CHERRIES IN THE FLAVOR. MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.
