Lafon’s need time and 12 years is just about right. Opened and decanted this at the restaurant. This wine was absolutely a delight tonight with sushi. Kept evolving in the glass. Beautiful white fruited nose and demonstrating beautiful acidity structure and length on the palate. More stony and minerale edge to this vineyard. Superb

This keeps opening and getting better as it gets to room temperature. No signs of premox. Pale gold color. At one hour it’s pineapple and sweet lemon on the nose and body. Lots of layers of fruit, with a terrific slightly bitter acidic core, hints of candied ginger, minerality and a long long finish. Highly recommend letting this breathe and open. First 30 minutes this was a completely different wine.

Comtes Lafon Virtual Tasting with Lea and Pierre Lafon (Planet Earth): Opened 3 hours before serving, in order to share with other quarantined tasters. Ripe apple throughout with some faint tropical hints, all well supported with very bright acidity that gives a nearly austere finish. Upside from here.

Well sadly I would have to call this bottle more advanced than anticipated; I'm not a premox expert as I don't drink a lot of older white Burg, but this was far more oxidative and less vibrant than anticipated at age 10; the color was golden; the nose showed bruised apple, toasted walnut, and dried floral notes. The palate was not unpleasant, but definitely did not have any lift or vibrancy that I was hoping for. Drinkable, but this bottle definitely seemed prematurely oxidized to me.

Precise and succulent, very good at the start and even better with air, deeper and fuller. One of those bottles that reminds you how incredible Lafon can be, and how much we long for them all to be in this condition. Lafon seems to have done especially well in this excellent vintage.

Absolutely killer. Lemon, lemon peel, leesy, bright yellow fruits. Real concentration and depth here. Great wine from a great vintage. A little surprised how open this is today. Great energy and verve. Upside to the score.

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note, A real step-up from the 2011, particularly in terms of its concentration, but with a similar floral and fruit profile. I really like the density, but just don't think it's as open/ accessible today as the 2009 tasted next, even if more cellarworthy.

The Verticals Tasting at La Paulée 2016 (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Light yellow. Lovely citrus and spice nose. Medium weight, lightly woody base, good sappiness, intensity, and minerality, but strong vanillin oak asserts itself at the end and cuts off the wine. I preferred this to the 2011 but still didn't find it great.

Comte Lafon Meursault Goutte d'Or 2010: Scents of white peach, flint, white flowers come to mind; undertones of mild creaminess and stony minerality. Bright on the entry, the slight salinity gives way to mouth puckering stone fruits held together by a firm acid spine. Mild toastiness is evident in the finish. Overall a well rounded wine with balance and finesse without overreaching.

Domaine Tasting at Comte Lafon: From barrel. Ripe, concentrated orchard fruits. Pretty mineral and floral tones. Rich, powerful fruit on the palate with great acidity. Medium body and length with a mineral backbone.

A Few Miscellaneous Wines in Burgundy, Outside of Meals and Tastings; 6/23/2015-7/5/2015 (Cote d'Or): Popped and poured. Enchanting aromas of spice, spring flowers, ripe orchard fruit and tropical hints. Less open on palate, perhaps slightly shut down to start. Better 45 minutes later and I'd expect even better later...if any wine was left.
