Reading my previous note from three years ago, the suggestion was that this was starting to close up, tightening after a couple of hours. This bottle starts in that surly, slightly mean and disinterested state. The ingredients remain in place, but today’s not the day to engage. Overnight it starts to loosen a little, but one to return to in a year or two. (***)

Last weekend of January 2022: Crimson, and on the nose much more vibrant than its 1 year older sibling. Still a good concentration of fruit, vibrant on the tongue, well balanced. The sour cherry is more pronounced but it’s well balanced - an easy drink if that isn’t too condescending to this lovely drop. Now THIS is a good reminder of how good villages burg with a little age on them can be.

Saturday Night Cooking and Doctor Who: Nice - bit of sour cherry acidity in the middle with some flesh around it. There's a mouth watering character to it - have a few of these left and I will try to leave them as I feel there's some interesting development to come.

“Running” Club Zoom night Vintage Pairs (Zoom): Paler colour than the 08, almost bricking on the rim. On the nose, a touch of earthiness, some red fruits. On the palate - lovely and balanced, a spine of acidity but not too much, this is ready to drink - although I feel it has time ahead of it. A really lovely villages Gevrey - very pleased to have more left in storage. My #2 wine of the evening.

First from the half case. A lovely bright core of garrigue strawberry with a touch of earthiness starting to develop. Relatively light and elegant, though not short of mid palate depth. Finishes well. Starts to show signs of tightening after a couple of hours. Lovely now and plenty in reserve. I’ll look in on it again this evening, but top *** possibly ***1/2.

In a good place. Bright fruit, cherry almost boiled sweet in character but not actually sweet. Light body, fragrant. Tannins just there but basically resolved. Very pleasurable to drink now and for the next 2-3 years maybe.

Clear, pale pink. The nose is light. I get some baking under my nose, Madeleine (so caramelised butter, sugar, vanilla) but light. Strawberry candy floss. Light but a bit of richness/weight. The palette is not at all sweet, rhubarb, apple, a touch savoury. Next one in a year to eighteen months.

Medium to light body. Benefits from a bit of air. Strawberry with some earthy notes, a little more high toned on the palate. Just a little tannin remaining. This is a juicy mouthful of fruit, clean and tasty with a nice finish

From 12 months ago this has softened into a lovely place. There remains the fresh pear-drop acidity, but the proportion to the fruit now seems more harmonious. Not a wine with aspirations to be anything other than a lovely drink, and unapologetically Burgundian. It is perhaps this honesty and transparency that remains most appealing.

Mark Haisma Tasting (Magdalen Restaurant, London): Perfumed and nuanced, fresh and yet expressive, this is what a good pinot is all about for me. It feels very alive at the moment. The best GC for me.

Quite tight on the nose. Bigger and denser than the 11 alongside it, feels like this should be put back in its box for a few years whereas the 11 is already very drinkable. A touch of savouryness to the fruit with toasty tannins.

Mark Haisma 2011 En Primeur Tasting - Vinoteca, February 2013: Spicy, animal-y notes dominate the nose with the fruit relegated to the background. Palate is tight and taut but nice juicy finish. Still a fair bit of acidity that needs to soften. 2015+

No decant. Red fruit pastel, wild strawberry scent. Crunchy green apple, cherry sherbet, moving into pear skin. Resolves into a clarifying limestone finish with talcum powder tannins. Over a couple of hours black plum emerges alongside a touch of warm spice on the finish. This builds and builds in a most satisfying fashion.
Mark has made an expression of these grapes that has a crystalline clarity while avoiding being crunchy. Tangy, full of flavour and dancing fresh moves with every step. Impossible not to return for sip after sip. Absolutely chuffing delicious. The remaining bottles are trembling with fear.

Mark Haisma 2010 En Primeur Tasting - Vinoteca, February 2012 (London): Barrel sample. Nose a little muted in comparison with the Bourgogne and strawberry rather than cherry aromas. Quite a bit of structure but very fine, silky tannins. Lovely balance. This could be his best Gevrey yet. 2014+

This is tasty, easy. Rich, red fruit. Good acidity. It’s fairly straightforward fruity. Lost some interest from last time.

Light (in a good way), softly carries spices, earth, and unripe berries. Had without food but I bet the right pairing would really make this sing.
