Intense, enchanting aromas of strawberry and macerated cherry with herbs and toasted spices. Throw in some campfire smoked game. Wow. Voluptuous, buoyant fruit joyfully bounces across the palate. Plenty of remaining grip. In a peak spot.

Well balanced and complex mature tase. Deep taste of cherries, red berries and raisins. Very smooth in the mouth and very nice rusty color. The bottle had been stored well and the cork was in perfect quality. In my opinion this is ready to drink now and will not last for more than 3-4 years before it starts to go downhill.

A very complex and savoury wine with notes of teak, bitter chocolate, root vegetables, leather and earth. The palate is calm and even, with vinous sweetness at its heart and all sorts of earthy nuance. Each sip reveals something different and it is a cerebral drink of great character and class.

The wine looks crimson colored. It had moderate tannins and was closed at the first pour. Opened nicely. It had medium legs. It tasted of mushroom, cassis and violet. Its body was medium/full. The wine had silky texture that developed in the glass. The wine finished very long.

Popped and poured and ready to go out of the shoot. Tannins were still present, but by no means was this a blocker to enjoying this wine. Somewhat muted nose of strawberry and I detected some earth tones as well. It will definitely hold for a few more years, but this seems to me to be in the prime drinking window.

P&P then drank over several hours. Very mature color, spicy, woody, tart nose. This is a nice food wine. Still has relatively lively palate and the fruit is settled. Wont get better, so drink now. Lots of secondary flavors, but seemed a bit ...eh...to be in the end.

Dark purple with no sign of maturity. Glorious nose of cherry and floral elements. Ready to drink with no tannin. balanced palate of sour cherry, spice, leather, cedar and minerality. Nice finish w/o a hint of bitterness. Drank this with an 04 and a 98 riserva. Neither of them were ready to drink just yet. i liked the 00 better than the 04, and the riserva which is a much bigger wine needs more time. All 3 very nice with upside potential.

It's a fact: Brunellos di Montalcino from Biondi Santi need a minimum of 2 hours aeration. It is impressive how it change over time. The aromas of this wine are complex. Flowers, dried fruit, leather, wet earth and clove alternate. The acidity and pasta with sausage and meat sauce match perfectly. This is a distinct wine.

The wife prepared shrimp simmering in a tomato-based sauce with feta added at the last minute, served over rice. I got it into my head that I wanted to try a minimally-oaked Sangiovese with the meal and came up with this. Popped and poured. Purple with garnet tint. Potent nose of cherry pits, dried berry, licorice, leather, hints of camphor. Sinewy and seamless power on the complex palate, which revealed cinnamon, dark cherry, plum, graphite, and sweet briary elements in an effortless attack. Excellent acidity and filed-off tannins amidst aristocratic structure. Long finish echoing red berry, earth, and grip, prompting yet another taste. This is a beautiful wine of impeccable balance and breed. And it went well with the meal.

Ferragosto in montagna: All the attendees guessed it as a Barolo, besides the owner of the bottle of course. But it's not strange with Biondi Santi in my (too little) experience. I found it pretty much closed, and I'd say it is still far from being ready; to me, this wine in 15 years could give a completely different impression, and get a higher score. My opinion wasn't shared by all attendees, some judged it already quite open. Still tannic; the similarity with Barolo can give a lot of hints to the rreader.
