Ruby turning clear bright garnet. The nose is nervous, with herbal and leafy notes, backed by a slight caramel notes, with slight red fruit. Tense and nervous on the palate, ending in a long finish. I believe it is at peak or near it.

Comes across both visually and aromatically as quite 'unfiltered'. No judgment cast there, just statin' the facts. Builds quite a bit aromatically, though, as the bottle opens -- very earthy and quite of the place. Palate: smooth and sublime almost throughout. Great balance and texture. Quite ethereal, really. Never powerful -- which is quite fine by this taster's POV. No need to rush to drink, but no perceptible reason to wait, either.

Dusty with bricking throughout. Spice, sandalwood, red and black fruited. a bit more acidity but not in a bad way. In a nice zone. Maybe even peak or close to it but with a long plateau.

Dinner at Mike and Cathy's place (Wellington, New Zealand): Primary ruby Pinot Noir colour. A perfumed bouquet of spicy red fruit, underbrush and damp soil. On the palate this wine is still very primary. Fresh and refreshing, the acids give the first impression and make me think first of 2008 Burgundy and then of 1996. A large scaled wine with big structure and big dry extract. The acids are prominent but not too much so, the wine is well balanced in terms of acids, fruit and tannins. Quite fleshy for a 1996, with nicely integrated tannins. The flavours are red fruited, sous bois and secondary. Drinking well now but ideally this wine needs more time in the cellar.

Bra vin, men hadde kanskje ventet meg enda mer. Synes egentlig at vinen er godt over toppen, men kjøpte vinen nylig i Frankrike og har selvfølgelig ikke kjennskap til hvordan den har vært lagret disse årene.

Pale lilac color with cloudy core; damp earth, tart purple berry, tree bark; fresh cherry water, semi-rich noble mouthfeel, orange zest on the long finish. Although I liked this when it was first opened this bottle was kind of disjointed and went downhill after a couple hours.
