Drank this on Christmas Eve with vanilla ice cream. Not a focused tasting note. Very enjoyable at the moment, but I‘d keep this tucked away for 5+ years as it is in transition. Nose is besutifully saturated with exotic fruit, honeycomb and black tea. Palate is very sweet and Inlike this solo without food.

PNP’d and drank with pork schnitzel, which was absolutely the wrong pairing. While the nose was an encouraging mix of exotic floral and honey notes, this was way sweeter in the palate (particularly the finish) than expected. I attribute this to my inexperience with auslese wines, as I typically drink drier Rieslings. A few days later with relatively mild Thai food, this was better but still to sweet. Then, after over a month with half of the bottle corked in the fridge, I tried it with medium spicy Indian food. Aha! This was the pairing it needed! And I also think the additional time brought this wine into focus. While still sweet, it had a string mineral backbone and the acidicity to hold everything together. This was elegant and balanced, and was truly spectacular with this food pairing. Now I get the previous scores, and the way this held up and improved after opening suggests it’s got serious upside ahead of it. This is a 93+ today, maybe even a 94. Will be my go-to style with Indian food from now on.

I think this is a bit shut down at the moment. Nose is very nice but the palate doesnt have the depth it should. Also finishes very sweet. Still enjoyable but I dont think it's at its peak.

2019 Donnhoff GGs+GK friends (Zoom, Chicago, IL): Nose: The nose is highly aromatic and deep with pears, honeydew, green apples, quince, nectarines, red apples, cheese rinds, melons, some cinnamon spices, and oily notes. This takes a little bit to get fully going with there being a great intersection between primary and maturing tones.
Taste: The feel is Medium- bodied with crisp, high acidity. The feel is lithe, balanced, and deep with pears, green and red apples, nectarines, honeydew, cheese rinds, cinnamon spices, and oily notes. The finish just doesn't quit as it keeps gaining as it crosses the palate.
Overall: This is lovely and right at the beginning of its maturity. The nose is drop-dead gorgeous and the feel shows the poise and quality that one expects from Hermannshohle.

Acacia flowers and slight petrol bouquet. Mostly primary notes. Very subdued given the vintage and producer. Felt the wine might have been a bit shutdown. I’d say leave this wine alone for 7-10 years before retrying. Recommended but with some reservation

Watching the NFC Championship game with Walter (Packers vs 49'ers). Walter brings a nice assortment of sushi and a delicious Auslese to accompany it, so I decide to also open this from half bottle. PnP. Golden yellow in color. Tropical fruit on the nose. Flavors of mango, passion fruit and perhaps peach. Caranel in the background with a bit of saline.Good acidity. The usual Donnhoff "purity". This should continue to develop for many years.

Aromatic with peach, mango, green apple, apricot on the nose, on the palate, less acidity than 2005 and 2010 we had and not as structured, but offered nice and layers of fruits, candied apricot, fig, honey, yellow flowers, and modest minerals.

Masterful. This is really coming good now, exotic fruit, almond, petrol underpinned by a muscular and everlasting backbone of citrus acidity, some salinity. Joyous drink for the price.

AP 16 12. Already turning a beautiful gold color. Significantly less acid than the 2010 bottling of the same wine, but somehow the completely different proportion between fruit, botrytis, and acidity doesn't come across as saccharine like many 2011 high-pradikat wines. Instead this is a calm, transcendental raisin elixir contrasted to the muscular, seething electricity of 2010. It will be glorious to watch these two develop over the years, as the two vintages couldn't be more different, but both products quite successful.
#16-12, 8.5% abv. From half bottle. A broad, open nose, with aromas of peaches, pears, and clover honey. Much more accessible than the Bruecke at the moment. A huge dollop of fresh fruit still, with moderate acidity. The texture is also a bit thicker, and coats the palate to a greater degree. Open for business still, drink this now to enjoy the fresh fruit and racy acidity. It will be interesting to compare this to the '12.

Pale straw. Nose not terribly expressive but on the palate one gets tangerines and honey, with the sweetness perfectly balanced with lifting acidity which wasn't as harsh as examples from 2010. Finish was pretty awe-inspiring as well. However, what was interesting was the immense minerality on both the nose and palate. This is one of the rare times I taste more minerality than fruit in an Auslese, especially a young one. Second day, gained more body but clearly this is a wine of immense minerality. Preference-wise, I would love to drink it with more age to bring out further complexity.

I liked it, but... Was very surprised at the taste and finish given the incredible ratings. Maybe it is too young and needs to develop and open up. The nose is fantastic. However, on the taste, no significant amount of petrol that would lead one to believe it will continue to resolve. Have three bottles left and will ignore them for quite some time.

White peach, lychee, spun honey, and rose water. Big body that overshadows the acid just a hair. Going to be a stunning wine in ten years, but there is no reason to hold off if you're curious!
German 'Lieblich' wines Tasting by Vin Gilles (Amsterdam): From half bottle. Powerful yellow and green fruits in the nose, well balanced. Again on the palate powerful sweet (melon) as well as green fruit tones. Already very attractive to drink now but with a long future ahead. A wine to study on. 93+

Petrol, very ripe fruit on the nose, a lot more expressive than Oberhaeuser Bruecke, beautiful, so bold but still elegant. Great acidity, so long and lingering, my WOTN.

Donnhoff Riesling Masterclass, with Cornelius Donnhoff (Handford Wines, London): Petrolly and open on the nose. Lovely ripe fruit, and in a way more fwd than the Brucke 11 GK and much easier to enjoy at this stage. Young yet beautiful wine with lots of promise here too. we blame palate fatigue for not providing a rating here..

Tasted alongside its sibling, the Oberhaueser Bruecke as part of my annual Doennhoff infanticide. Very pale straw colour. Relatively open nose, with notes of pineapple gummy bears, wildflower honey, and golden apples. The palate is incredible -- this is ripe and exuberant yet dignified at the same time. Stewed stone fruit flavours are held in check with a vein of grapefruit-flavoured acidity, while this remains fresh and vibrant with a good dose of mineral quality thrown in to boot. Undoubtedly this can survive the long haul, but this is immensely pleasurable now. Like a Bach fugue, it can be enjoyed for its superficial features, or you can spend an entire evening analyzing and deconstructing its brilliance.

Citrus, green apple, hint of peach, honey, stones. Medium body, transparency, purity. Intense flavours, kind of coolish fruits just blowing up. Firm mineral core, high, steely, razor-precise acidity. Pretty long finish, good balance, youngish tension and vibrancy. 91-92
