Brunello di Montalcino tasting (at my home): a good solid rustic Brunello, at or a bit beyond its peak, quite enjoyable on its own. requires one - two hours of air. drink now.

Decanted for 45 minutes - with lots of sediment - but it needs even more decanter time. Lots of cedar, some leather and dark fruits (blackberry, black cherry) on the nose. The cedar and dark fruits carried over on to the palate along with some red cherry and a touch of herbs. The acidity was a bit more than needed to balance and there were still tannins on the finish. However, the over-appearance of cedar on both the nose and palate are troublesome and may point to this wine's poor cellaring prior to my buying it at auction several years ago.

Tasting with old (and one new) friends (Kitchener, Ontario): This pours medium ruby with light bricking at the rim. The nose is complex and classic Sangiovese, showing leather, rosemary, dark cherry, wet hay, and forest floor. The palate is lovely with lush deep dark fruit with medium tannin and medium plus acid. Very enjoyable, open and at a nice stage in it's evolution.

really really nice again... my friend (who doesn't love Italian wines generally -- I think cuz way back she was drinking them way to young) was googoo-for-gaga over the wine... this is full bodied for Brunello and has what I think of as a 2006 burgundy style (in terms of being slightly brutish / brooding / strong on the palate), but this one (unlike some '06 burgs I don't like) has nice acidity for balance, slight tannins still hanging around (in a nice way) and amazing flavors -- alongside the red and black fruit... the spices and umami are racing around in the mouth... this is almost like a culinary experience via a wine glass... great / unique stuff for Brunello

wow, this was a great brunello, not on par with or in the style of my favorite (Soldera), but great nonetheless... this was bigger and bolder with darkish fruit and great exotic nose... also tons of umami... just a ton going on here and not for the faint of heart (re the palate or the nose)... at peak and for some reason I thought to myself that this might be best drunk in the next few years (ie not a long hauler in my view)

Enjoyed the dry, rustic flavors of this brunello. The wine has developed well since I last had it 8 years ago. It has gotten less astringent and the flavors are coming out. Should continue to last.

Manny of the things I wrote in my tasting from last year is clearly still valid - lots of black fruit black cherries and blueberries - spices and clearly tobacco - medium tannins and acidity - the balance is however less impressive this time compared to my last bottle - so have to lower the rating to 92.

The Rotating Dinners, II.4: 2006 Brunello (Chicago, IL): Inky, dark, and burly. Too young for certain. Lots of black fruit, there's a certain quality here that reminds me of young Bordeaux, but I can't otherwise label it. Black-fruited and structural, this is clearly a well-built wine, but it's just not sufficiently expressive right now.

Nigh alcohol on the nose, with a bit of thin cherry/cassis nose, but very muted, alcohol dominates. Medium bodied, cherry and strawberry, mild tannins. moderate finish. Goes well with meats, chicken, and lighter beef fare, not for the exceedingly rich dish or heavier flavored beef.

Pretty good, had with some pork chops @ CS's. Good cherry flavors, moderate tannins. Will have to try again when it's had a chance to decant properly & savor. Would do well with a grilled beef or braised lamb.

Wow, what a treat! Fully matured and ready to enjoy 10 years old Brunello Riserva! Garnet young color, slightly whitish rim. medium body, nose of flowers, spices, leather and black fruits. Beautiful, fully integrated and balanced palate, very long (40 sec plus) finish. Wow!!!

Tuscan Wines Featuring Querceto di Castellina (SF Wine Trading Company): Ruby center with browning. Floral, perfumey nose. Lovely weight and feel. Excellent savory complexity with brown spice, anise, tobacco leaf, and leather. Some wood asserts itself toward the end, which detracts a bit for me, but this is a very good wine that is essentially fully mature.

Tuscan wine tasting at home - 4/11/15 - Dark crimson color with orange rim. Medium(+) aromas of red fruits/ tobacco with excellent herbal/ cinnamon undertones, with a little barnyard aspect. Very complex on the nose and in the mouth. Tannins remain high, but are well integrated with the fruit, and this wine is drinking beautifully today. This was even better on the next day, as it appeared to meld even better, and the tannins had subsided somewhat. May benefit from 1-2 yrs in cellar, but again not in any way a disservice to drink this now. It would be really nice, and a fantasy, if all Brunellos drank like this one.

En magnum. Distinctly flowery bouquet. Medium weight. Cherries, raspberries and other stone fruits., followed by soft tannins. Very charming and accessible now even in youth.

nose: very good depth and class strikes right off the bat. Though still on the tight side, there are gorgeous tones of roasted herbs, red cherries, red fruits, leather, berries and various red floral tones.
taste: medium/full bodied with big and chewy tannins and high acidity. The structure is pretty overbearing right now, but underneath there are deep tones of roasted herbs, cherries, red fruits, leather and red floral tones.
overall: this is stunning right now, but has lots of room for improvement as well. The structure is huge, but the class is there right now. It is definitely one for the future
