  • I think I enjoyed this more than any of the other guests at the birthday party. The color was medium yellow orange and clear. Scents of light acacia honey and a hint of orange waft up from the glass. On the palate, light to medium weight, good persistence and amazingly, not fatigued although the finish is modest. Very, very interesting.

  • 1971 Bordeaux (3030 Ocean, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida): I wasn’t expecting much from a white wine at age forty-seven. What I hoped for was something complex rather than decrepit - and that is what I got. The bottle, sourced from Heritage with a very top shoulder ullage, looked good, as did the light gold color. Amazing complexity of aroma and palate, including peach, apricot and Indian spices. Nice acidity too and it held up very well for hours. A real testament to the vast age ability of white Bordeaux, at least one of royal pedigree.

  • I had feared that this would be far over the hill, but it was outstanding.

The wine looks yellow gold colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like lemon and butterscotch. It tastes like lemon, grapefruit, butterscotch, mango, apricot and peach. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

  • bottle, fill and cork all good. Golden color and sauternes nose with nuts and wax -very semillion. A resolutely dry wine - beautiful and singular. At the end of its life, but still excellent

  • A little dry, but still lovely power and great acidity. Again, hints of caramel, sugar.

  • This HBB has shed all its fatness, and has gone over to the elegant, complex phase, with a nose like no other white wine I have had. Like a complex mix between a fully mature Savennieres, a Silex and a Montrachet (if you get my drift...). Medium body with a persistent, lingering, layered mouthfeel. Very well balanced and very long. The 1994 was sligthly better in my view, since I like the fullness and roundness of the younger wine.

  • Many thanks to Mark, who brought this as a treat for the group. This was a fantastic way to start off the night! Intense golden color. On the nose, some hints of oxidation and botrytis? and a touch of beeswax. On the palate, still plenty of rich lemon curd notes followed by hints of zest and spices. On the finish, this wine had searing acidity, which made me think there was more to be seen so I set it aside instead of quaffing it down. 3hrs later at the end of the dinner, the acid had faded almost completely and the wine was much softer on the palate, the oxidative notes blew off and the waxy lemony fruit and floral notes followed by clove and spices was totally intoxicating! What a great opportunity to have tasted this.
