Purchased off WineBid, oxidized unfortunately - clear notes of sherry on open.
Shame really - we followed it anyway as the night progressed and it developed a very nice butterscotch profile with air. Seems like it would have been a beautiful bottle otherwise, at times you got glimpses of what was hiding underneath and it tasted and smelled lovely.

The Corton Bressandes was the lightest of the flight, with mature red fruits, light earthy notes, perhaps slightly sweeter than it's companions, but in a joyful and playful manner. A nice reprieve from the heavier wines served just prior (Opus, SQN, Janasse). Amazing out of the bottle, passive aeration for about 3 hours, and held up well throughout the evening. No hurry here. Drink now or hold.

(Mostly) Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Mostly mature red cherry and berry with some roasted meat, this is just nicely fresh (enough). Maybe not quite Grand Cru density, but easy to enjoy the evolved mature character here. A rare 1996 that is fully ready to go now.

It's finally ready! Everything you want in a Burgundy. Plenty of tertiary notes of jumping in a pile of fall leaves with plenty of primary fruit and acid. Almost a perfect wine and probably still on the upward trajectory. Corton-Bressandes is as good or better than any other Grand Cru; it just needs at least 25 years.

1996 Burgundy Retrospective - The First Session (Clarity - Vienna, Virginia): The most mature red of the evening. Fully mature nose displaying subtle yellow cherry, strawberry water, dry fig, toffee, strong soy, cola, sous bois, iron and earth. Fully resolved palate, delicate red fruit, very fluid, bright acidity, fully resolved tannins and a medium to long subtle red fruit driven finish. For me, it is showing too much soy. Others like it more.

Dom Perignon and 3 bottles of 1996 Red Burgundy (Yan's China Bistro, Walnut Creek, Ca.): With the Wine Group, Nose of black cherry, hint of red cherry, strawberry, mushroom, and earth, big body, same on the palate, delicious tasting, rich fruit, at it's best so enjoy now, lovely with Peking Duck, big, sweet, mouth filling fruit today, and a sweet, fruity, long tasting finish. Uploaded photo.

Mike and I tasted 1990 Ponnelle Corton Clos Du Roi and 1996 Tollot-Beaut Corton Bressandes paired with Roasted Duck cooked by Alex at Yans. Nose of black cherry, hint of red cherry, touch of earth, closed nose for the first 50 minutes, then, showed mushrooms on the nose, big body, the more feminine of the two wines, gradually opened to rich, tasty fruit, elegant tasting, lovely with the Roasted Duck, not as memorable as the last two bottles, still a flavorful wine and a medium/long finish.

This has once again improved from last taste 2 years ago. Wonderful nose with great lift and clarity. Underwood, roses and clean fully mature red fruit. A little bit like a mature Barolo mixed with some balsamic Rioja notes :-) Great underlying sweetness all the way though the palate. Quite full bodied and earthly but with etheral airy qualities. It has that inner energy and "something extra" which marks a Grand Cru (rarely from Corton, but this is clearly an exception...). Very succulent, and mouthwatering. Clean long finish. This was my last bottle out of six and I wish I have kept them all for now. Probably will keep developing for 3-5 more years and then reach its plateau.

Tasting of two Red burgundy with Mike at Yan's, first place. Lovely nose of cooked bacon, dark cherry fruit, and earthy minerals, more of the same on the palate, very tasty and mouth filling tonight, touch of medium amount of soft tannins suggest this wine will age for 3 more years and improve, long finish. Tasted delicious with the beef and mushroom stew.

Wow, this has really evolved into a great wine since my last tasting 4-5 years ago. Wonderful nose with great lift and clarity. Underwood, roses and clean fully mature red fruit. Great underlying sweetness all the way though the palate. It has that inner energy and "something extra" which marks a Grand Cru (rarely from Corton, but this is clearly an exception...). Very succulent, and mouthwatering. It is amazing that the 1996's are coming back to this level after what was a looong dumb phase where the fruit and sweetness was just gone. It is back in full vigour!

Clean, restrained nose, which opens up in the glass with time (30 minutes). The fruit is not bombastic, typical Corton style, earth, gravel and medium body. The 1996 shows no oxidation at all, but is not that sweet either. OK to drink now, but may evolve further. The question is if the fruit holds up?

First place. Big, bright red color in the glass, nose of bacon and dark cherry fruit, more of the same on the palate, smooth, elegant, intense, great structure, and easy to drink, medium/long finish.

Very, very good. Decanted but not long enough before drinking...the last sip was by far the best. If you see it buy it.
