Boerne wine club Rieslings (Scenic Loop Cafe): Whew! Strong Petrol, almost kerosene nose that was off-putting to some, and others loved it. Very typical to me and lovely. bone dry. Not for the faint of heart

A good pick up from the recent PLCB sale. Upon unscrewing, a strong petrol nose that blows off with time. Complex display on the palate with controlled sweetness, mineral, spice, good sustain and acidity. A deeply layered wine that releases more flavor and subtle creaminess as it warms in the glass. Wonderfully evolved.

Slightly reductive at first (screwcapped), but opens up really nicely with a bit of air to show bright floral and mineral flavours around a core of incredibly bright, ripe white fruits. Really enjoyable, though the alcohol on the back end does start to make itself felt as this warms up a little.

Quite strong body with gentle fruit flavours of apricot and peach. Its acid might be a bit weak but still pleasing. Nice one but nothing really astounding or overwhelming! Would be a nice Federspiel quality.

2006 Gaisberg and Heiligenstein Riesling (Vin Vino, Palo Alto): Nose of wet stone that expanded and reminded me of a Trimbach Riesling (high praise indeed!). Wow, this is long and seamless despite being backward. There is some residual sugar here and maybe a touch of botrytis too. Very complete wine with herbal notes that lead into a rising finish that expanded much as the aromatics did over time. Very impressive.

Brief note. UNP. Lots of TDN. Smooth and polished but bone dry. Very nice and I don't see this getting any better.

Alluring, apricot nose. The body is rich, full and quite lush but lacking complexity and depth. Finish is a bit flat and medium-persistent.

What drwine said. Also, the bitter and slightly alcoholic finish seriously disturbs the balance of this wine.

Weingut Hirsch Rieslings, 2003-2008; 8/17/2010-8/21/2010 (Vin Vino, Palo Alto and Wallse, New York): Similar shade to the '05 Zobing. Slightly floral at first. Fuller, rich citrus and stone fruit with some spice. Then it fattens up and shows predominant peach. Good minerality, lower acidity, bitter finish that is not harmonious with the mid-palate. Too loose a style for me.

smokey and intense, more weighty than other examples of this wine that I've had. Lovely, but brawny. Weisswurst, sauerkraut, sour cream.
