In a really great spot now. Tannins are resolved and this wine shows a wonderful forest strawberry on the nose and palate, coupled with forest floor aromas. Great acidity typically from Pinot that keeps the wine well alive. Not sure about further development, so drink it now!

Clos des Epeneaux survey, part II (Chicago, IL): Probably the best of the bunch tonight. The 2000 red Burgundies have been drinking very well for a few years now and don't really show many signs of fading, and this bottle was very much in that same vein. Almost fully resolved with a silky tannic finish, this is showing lots of secondary characteristics with a modest autumnal touch. The fruit is still fresh and shows no signs of browning or drying out.

Wining Around New York; 3/6/2019-3/10/2019 (Various Venues, New York): Light red but not watery. Beautiful mature sous bois, strawberry, and pomegranate right out of the bottle. Then, more high toned wintergreen and stems. Light to medium body, definitely delicate for Pommard, but nothing weak about it. Some tart acidity, little in way of tannin, good base of soil. This is no match for the bigger, more rugged vintages of this wine, but I really enjoyed it for what it was (i.e., lilting, fragrant, fully mature Burgundy) rather than criticizing it for what it is not.

Light and lean on day 1. Good flavour of raspberries, cherries and licorice. Gets more dark and broody on day 2. More dark cherries and forest floor. More power. A bit rich. Goes very well with food. Sadly my last bottle.

Relative to the '96 and '98 I was disappointed by 2000 in this tasting. It lacked any of the richness or complexity of those wines. Certainly an elegant wine, it came across as somewhat flat.

Some Pinot Noirs of the World: Starts off with barnyard, smoke and berries in the back stage, also some marinade. Noticeable accidity, powerful tannins - it is not rustic, but certainly on the heavier side. With time the nose got somewhat metallic. Overall I liked its maturity and power.

From a 24 vintage vertical. The change in winemaker was obvious. 2000,2001 and 2002 are in a completely differnt style from the previous vintages and are perhaps more similar than they could have been (as opposed to reflecting the vintages).
Very parfumed with raspberry bonbon, juicy sweet and sour fruit and completely ripe tannin. Not the most precise wine in the world, but very soft and charming.

From 75cl, perfect cork. Closed and fiercely tannic on opening, decanted 1 hour. Dark, brooding red. Earthy scent, sweet dried mushrooms and forest floor; big, ripe, even rich entry with dark fruit (black cherry, perhaps); lively acidity on the mid-palate, but a not-quite pleasant, mealy-tannic texture which finishes dry, even a bit rasping on the tongue. The aftermath is fur and raw leather. Big, solemn, po-faced wine, like a muscled-up, knocked-about, broken-nosed rugby player. All brawn, scars and rough skin. Approachable now, has plenty of stuffing to last (how many?) years. If it softens up and becomes less monolithic, it might one day become superb, but I wouldn't bet on it. 89P(?)

Smells like autumn. Earth, wet leaves. There is a brawny feel to the palate, that also shows some dark fruit. The fruit leans toward opulent. With air, the wine really drinks well. Some drying extract to the finish. No rush, but I had no issue drinking it last night. Solid.

Dinner at Joel Robuchon (Restaurant Joel Robuchon, Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore): Strangely enough, I had entirely forgotten having had this bottle just over a year ago when we bought it off the wine list. Decanted for just under an hour before we got to it and paired perfectly with a nice duck breast, foie gras and poached cherry dish, this showed at least a notch up from the previous bottle. With the time and air we gave it, it was drinking quite nicely as well - I enjoyed this bottle tremendously. It smelt lovely, with a wonderful Pommard nose where earth and spice aromas formed a savoury backdrop to gentle scents of red and black cherries crowned by some wafting floral notes - violets I thought. Very nice. Really good on the palate too. Rich, meaty and satisfying, with sappy dark cherry flavours floating around a savoury core that brought to mind forest floor, mushrooms and meat, before moving into a long, velvety finish seasoned with dark, woody spice notes. Balanced, integrated and really delicious - I loved this. Although surprisingly open for business for a youngish Armand Clos des Epeneaux, one cannot help but feel that this really would benefit one or two more years in the bottle at least. However, there was certainly no harm in drinking it after a little decant. In any event, it certainly was a whole lot friendlier and more approachable than the really obdurate 1999 that I had a few months back.

Blind Burgundies -Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin Singapore Back to Basics (Absinthe, Bukit Pasoh): En Magnum. Yet another very surprisingly good bottle. Quite an exceptional nose. Sous bois, earth, mushrooms, cherries, orange peel and iron-infused mineral just tumbling out of the glass. No slouch on the palate either. Maybe not quite the complexity or attractiveness of the nose, but certainly yummy, with sappy cherries and strawberries seasoned with sprinkles of orange peel and orange zest and given form by some excellent bones shaped by powdery tannins and very well integrated acidity. The whole wine came across very well-integrated actually. Finish flowed from the mid-palate seamlessly, moving into a good long linger of herbs, spice and a little menthol. A yummy wine, surprisingly open for business.

After seeing how approachable the '03 was last week, thought I'd check in on this. Rather elegant for a Pommard, some pretty cherry fruit, some sap, the oak discreet but adding richness and sweetness, a fair bit of tannin, but it's not obtrusive - classy

Crazy, crazy stuff! if I could figure out how to leave my nose in a glass of this, I'd do it all the time. Very strange funky, almost fizzy on the nose and the palate, constantly changing. I briefly considered quitting my job and huffing Armand Pommard all day long. I think this will calm down a little and merit a higher score in time, but what a weird, wonderful thing it is now.

great nose, but very tannic out of the box. very nice black fruit with a little bit of rustic funk both in the nose and in the mouth. After a couple of hours, everything smoothed out and the last glass just sang. I will wait 2-3 years before opening another and hope that this comes together and smooths out a little more in bottle.

red cherries, red currants and just a touch of earthy leather. clear, dark ruby color. the nose and the upfront flavors were where it was at, as the middle and finish came up short. a bit rough and tannic (maybe won't go away?) on the finish.

On the first night, this is all about the nose -- rich black cherry, forest floor, mushrooms, spices, all very deep, rich, and swirling. In the mouth, shows promise, but clipped by the acidity a bit right now. Second night, the nose muted but the palate opened and got rich. Delicious, but wait 2 years.

Very nice Pommard. Nose with cherries, rasperry jam, licorice and forrest floor. Almost no spice, just a small hint.
Palate was cheery-like, and the tannins was quite smooth but in no way tame.
Overall a very convincing bottle of burgundy, but not elegant.
