Solid yellow gold in the glass. A nose that projected right from the pour: plenty of petrol with orange citrus and diced ripe mango. Wet minerality as well. Rich and dense on the palate. Amazing depth and concentration of ripe tropical flavour with hyper acid providing orange zest through the powerful and lengthy finish. Was not expecting such an impressive showing but this was fantastic and made for hedonistic and delicious drinking.

On of the driest in the Zind Humbrecht line, this paired well with a cold seafood cocktail of lobster, lump crab and shrimp. Just the right amount of sweetness on the finish. Very nice but probably not wise to keep this vintage much longer as it is beginning to show some age in my opinion. Drink now and enjoy!

Ringing in the New Year; 12/31/2010-1/2/2011: nose: real classy and fat nose of honeysuckle, lanolin, pears, nectarines, and bits of creamed apples. Great layering on the nose with great depth as well and very expressive
taste: full bodied with deep tones of honeysuckle, pears, creamed apples and a touch of warm honey. Extremely well balanced with medium acidity supporting it
overall: This ZH is right in its pomp. Beautiful and succulent on both the nose and palate with great depth and layering. Classy and elegant, this is a ton of fun to drink and shows off everything that I enjoy from ZH

warm medium gold. Wow. Incredible nose of powdered granite, lemon curd, perhaps hint of vanilla, and ripe stoine fruit. Ni kidding, it really "jumps from the glass" to use a cliche. Palate is full bodied, immense scale (the ZH style), but enough acid to hold it all together nicely. Flavoers of crushed stones, lemon curd, a bit of honey and ripe apricot notes, really impressicely balanced, with a very long finish. Great wine. Could hold longer, but so good now, why bother?

Dark straw color, fresh nose, great out of the bottle - with good mature fruit and a lot of acidity on the back end. Drier style for ZH, almost Trimbach. Really enjoyable. Not sure how long this will go as the fruit faded a bit after an hour, but very good right now. A-

Fuller colour, more golden than the 89 CFE. Ever so honeyed nose, hints of lime and petrol. Initially a touch of rs on the attack and then crisply dry with some fatness/weight in the mouth. Mineral finish, long. Lovely. Will improve in a few years as it sheds its teenage fat. ****

EIEIO Dinner with Jay McDonald (David's on Jefferson Hill, Naperville, Illinois): Pale gold color. Subtle petrol aroma precedes notes of wet stones, marmalade and spice. Smoke and flint aromas emerge with additional time in the glass. Intense mineral and apple tones on the palate, with a rich texture and great length on the finish. 93-94+ pts.

Syrah au Centenaire (Centenaire): Robe dorée, ambrée. Nez de coing, bouche encore bien vive, fraîche, opulent, belle finesse. Il en a encore sous la pédale, le bougre.

Shimmery pale gold. Nose has striking clarity of Brand terrior, rally amazing pswdered granite, lemons and cream. Heaven for fans of Brand terriior. Mid-weight palate, nice balancing acidity, with a touch of baby fat in the background. Very precise flavors of minerally, stony elements, leavened with the creamy lemony fruit, perhaps a hint of peach. Fruit persists, with very nicely integrated acids, though a long finish. Very nice!

Shanghaied for the night: Intense nose - smells big and dense with a touch of Riesling/Gewurztraminer spiciness. Rich, concentrated and dry with petrol and lychee fruit. Does not pair well with the crazy looking scrotum-shaped dumplings we were served. Not quite as big as it smells, nor do I like it as much as the Pinot Gris Z-H John brought a couple weeks before. Interesting.

Really wonderful alsatian reisling with great depth and body balanced perfectly by acid. Excellent. Drinking wonderfully. 11/01 Medium golden hue with clean forward aroma of almost red fruits and a little briar and orange peel. Unctious with lemmony acid. Full-bodied and gobs of sour apple fruit. 2/02

Dinking nicely, just a hint of old age. Drink up. Neat old Riesling aromatics. Balancing faded fruit.

Honey, quince, and chalk with nice cut, still plenty of life left in it.
