Very good fortune that this bottle was showing strikingly well throughout the evening. This was electric in all the right ways. Acid backbone with a hedonistic purity of fruit.
This stellar performance from a rather random off-vintage bottler further perpetuates my strong belief that Leflaive is purely a roll of the dice. One of the finest Leflaive bottles of 2023.

First of the case and in perfect condition. Exuberant nose with oak and reduction. Rather Meursault like. Palate is dense , compact and packed full of energy. Finish dry and feels a bit lean in relation to the rest but just needs time as opens. Drinking now but maybe a little tight on finish and should develop. Lovely

Initially I was afraid this is a little advanced for the vintage - but it actually held beautifully over a few hours. So perhaps this is really just the style that works well here.

superb wine, with loads of acidity but also some pine needle (?) or menthol (?, not off-putting), or lemon rind bitter edge (again, not off putting)... didn't see the minerals but they may have simply been hiding behind the acidity and the bright fruit... I liked this more than the 2010 Leflaive Pucelles 2010 we had the next night

Not a great year for Burgundy in general. Just beginning to show some complexity. Minor nutty and leesy notes on the nose. Very savory with a good tannic structure. A good, long finish. Still young and a good effort for the vintage.

really nice, great acid, loads of minerals, citrus all the way with the right sense of sweetness for balance, dense with a sort of textured mouthfeel, with all the power if this puppy it felt like it was still a little muted / holding back, I think this may open up more in years to come and become a powerhouse, already great but feels like a blockbuster in the making

Domaine Leflaive with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Youthful, light golden, glossy color. The new oak is more present here vs the other 2011s, a bit more earthy on the nose, roast meat feel (or bacon), tropical fruit intermix with the dominant presence of citrus fruits. good mineral edge, good, polished acidity. Sharp and focused. Very young and full of promise. A 92 for now but with good future.

Plenty of flint and matchstick to the aroma. There's green melon and pure white peach fruits. You get some floral spice and the palate is piercing and direct. It has so much finesse and great mineral cut to the finish.

This was a really scintillating wine from Leflaive. Understated with a strong burnt match sulphide reduction initially which melted away to reveal a creamy mineral laden alladins cave. Conveying the terroir effortlessly this is a benchmark 1er cru. Refined, elegant, full of class. Looks great now and with the modern phenomenon of butchered White Burgundies with bottle age why wait? After a few really off wines from Leflaive in 06 and 07 this is a return to what the best Leflaive's are all about.

We had the 2011 Leflaive Clavoillon and Combottes side by side last night. For me, the Combottes was by far the better wine. Both for current (albeit early) consumption and for cellaring.

This wine was very advanced, nutty, waxy aromas, bruised apples. Should not be for a 2011, premox strikes again with Leflaive. NR
