Brown-toned fruit, christmas spices, licorice and tobacco notes. Big and muscular old-school Chateauneuf. A bit dry from the tannins. Excellent match with my lamb. Will live on. At home with Christian.

Color doesn't show any signs of development. It's bloody red with no browning. Yeasty on the nose with some woody notes. There's some fruit on the mid-palate along with an herbal trace. It doesn't feel heavy. There's just the right amount of extract so it doesn't feel heavy. It finishes very dry, dusty and longer than expected. This is almost twenty years old and still needs time. Took 3 hours to fully open up to old-school Chateauneuf in the masculine style with a profile of licorice, figs, dark red fruit and spices. Lots of farmyard on the nose that slowly dissipates. Even if Mourre du Tendre produces big scaled wines I like them a lot but patience is key. This one will easily last another 5 years. There is plenty of fruit to deal with the remaining tannins.

Deep garnet. A coarse, rustic wine with powerful aromas of red currents and pomegranate, creosote, tobacco, herbs. No holds barred on the palate; intensely extracted, full bodied wine with substantial levels of fruit, but also powerful tannins and acidity. Tannins have some bitterness on the finish. Probably nearing its prime drinking window -- serve this with a strongly flavored pasta dish, like a putensca sauce (tomato, garlic, tuna and capers).
As an aside, this wine never should have been awarded the original 92-point score it received in WA. I've tried it several times and the score never made sense to me... now it seems clear that it was just too high...
