Secondary flavours are evident. Starting its slow decline, all though this is still drinking well at 12 years. Coffee, leather, root and earth. Round with fine tannin, still sweet with perfumes on the finish. Interesting and relatively smooth. Drink up.

Leather, dark cherry, flowers and porcini mushrooms. Showing it's age with drying tannin on the finish. This was way better a year ago but man is it fading out now, so drink up.

Last bottle starting to feel a bit sleepy, but once aired, it did show off very well. I will leave the remaining bottles though, as I think it will be rewarded in the future.

Dark core lightening at the rim. Decanted about a half hour. Danp Earth, leather, cherry nose with a bramble note. Not showing its age really, a little on the nose. Good balance and finish. Tangy and fresh acidity hold this together well. Persistant and noticable tannin on the finish. Dark cocco, sweet dark cherry after taste. Lots left in the tank here, suprisingly at 11 years old. Ageing like a good brunello. Drink now to 2015.

Different than last bottle, but still impressive wine. More "supertuscan" than chianti this time and needed an hour to open up. Dark fruits, cherries, coffee and herbs. Beautiful acidity and balance, nice and velvety tannins with a tobacco - aftertaste. This is a big wine and will easily last for a decade and improve in a couple of years. - But what a bottle-variation!

One of the best bottles of chianti I've tried. Really traditional and probably at its peak. Classic aromas of black cherries, blueberries, cinnamon and a bit of underground. Really juicy and easily drinkable. This is just stunning value at 17 euros!

Did not decant. Floral nose with vanilla, cherry and earth notes. Medium bodied and very round. This is drinking great now all though this is starting to decline a little so drink within a few years. Very nice juicy finish and very balanced. Notes of ground sage, sour cherry, clay and dried herbs. Drink now.

Decanted a few hours. Flowers, vanilla, cherries, citrus and earth on the nose. Grippy dusty tannins and great structure and balance, if there is a flaw its a little hot on the back end but it's not enough to creat any real problem. Finish is good with lingering dark fuit, earth, bitter dark chocolate and fresh herbs. Nice Reserva and at 10 years and 2 hrs. in air this is still fresh, well done. Has several years left but drinking great right now. Drink now to 2015.

Obvious new french oak, but by no means would I call this wine over-oaked, esp. at this age. The nose, rather, is quite complex: aromas of tar, cherries, maybe a faint note almonds. Distincally Italian on the palate, with sour cherry, minerals, metalic notes, with a complex earthy and herbaceous back end. Moderate acidity and well-integreted alcohol; tannis are prominenant by smooth and silky at this stage. Good juice, no doubt.

It finally seems to have come together offering a complex nose dominated by dark fruit and pain grille. A delicious mouthfeel and acceptable lenght with dusty tannins that match any tomato based disch superbly. Drink or hold, storing has really paid off here.

Some cherry, leather, tannic, oak a little too strong for me. Some mineral notes. Very tight, short finish. Just okay. Juding by previous comments, maybe this just isn't my style or possibly not a representative bottle. Popped & poured - drank over 2 nights.

Blind Old World with Il Cane Rosso pizza (Il Cane Rosso pizza, Dallas): Blind Red 5 - Dark garnet translucent in the glass. Saddle leather nose. Medium full bodied and a little bit vinous/plain with tangy cherry fruit and rather light tannins at this point. Finishes a little short. Okay.

Had this wine at a neighborhood restaurant called Lucca in NE Portland. Opened up nicely and went well with the dinner we had. Very fruit forward with some mineral notes at the end. Nice wine.

Just lovely - this is a big chianti and it has been pretty tanic in the past. This bottle was fantastic. The tannins were integrated nicely revealing lovely dark red fruits. I think this '01 is finally ready without any resevations. Decanted for 2 hours before drinking.

This is a big Chianti, almost a baby brunello. Opened at noon and consumed that night, it was still a little tight. Wonderful, dry smokey cherries, dark rasberries, some oak. Great stuff.

Lovely nose, plum, salami, cinnamon, wet wool. Ripe powdery tannins, quite a modern fruity style of Classico, but still retains style and elegance.
