Had on Christmas 2023. Perfect age. Mild tannins, fruity nose. Great with a meal or to enjoy a day or two after the holidays. If you have it, drink it soon.

Wonderful bottle-age aromas of black cherries, creme de cassis, eucalyptus, sous bois, and a kiss of smoke. Sleek and savory in the mouth, it possesses fantastic structure and complexity, and kept developing terroir-driven typicity while growing in breadth and depth as the night wore on. A streak of minerality picks up black coffee on the long, sapid finish.

A distinctive Napa nose with a bit of cassis and eucalyptus. More of the same on the palate with a touch of blackberry jam. Though rather strong at 14.8 abv, the most appealing thing about this wine is that it medium bodied. I don't like wine so thick that they have to be served with a knife and fork. I find a lighter body is more expressive and a heavier body buries the subtler flavors.

This is always a more restrained style of Napa Valley Cabernet, and this is no exception. Beautiful nose of creosote, red flowers, spice and currants. Medium-full bodied with a beautiful texture. Moderately tannic with good acidity. This is loaded with flavor, but in an elegant fashion. Plenty of sweet black and red currants, spice, new oak and chocolate. This is just really in a beautiful place right now. 93

Without checking, I gave this bottle the same score as I did the last one. Nice nose - black and blue fruits with a hint of forest floor. Mostly plums on the palate, with the slightest hint of vanilla. Medium body and medium viscosity. Mouthfilling fruit and a solid (not great) fruit-driven finish. Almost perfect balance, and I'd guess that it's at its peak. Don't know the MSRP for this wine or for the current release, but at the $44 I paid, it borders on a steal. Of course, you could pay $100+ for a PlumpJack or a Caymus, but this is a much better wine at a much better price.
Opened (not decanted) about an hour before tasting. Plums, a little charcoal, and a lot of smoke on the nose. Dark fruits on the palate. Medium body, but quite viscous. Decent, fruit-driven finish, but (surprisingly) the viscosity didn't contribute to it. Nice balance right now - the tannins are still present, but not oppressive or obtrusive. About two or three hours later, it seemed to have picked up some complexity. I suspect that it will still improve over the next year or two (or three).

Classic nose of charred wood and black currant as well as creosote and hot gravel. The palate is Medium-bodied and put together on a sinewy frame. Still moderately tannic with medium-high acidity, this is decidedly Bordeaux-style and could use another few years to soften and develop. That said, this really could use a little more meat on its bones. Drink Now-2025 91

Consistent with previous notes. Drank out of a magnum with friends on annual holiday trip. Was accessible immediately and brought loads of rich chocolate, cherries, raspberries, leather, tobacco, and eucalyptus. Nice, structured red currant style against subtle backdrop of black currant, soy, and herbs. Dark chocolate dominates, though. Drink 2020-2024. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 93.

Excellent mountain cab. Keenan never disappoints. Immediately upon opening, the whole room filled up with sweet aroma of dark fruit and leather. Virtually no sediment. Gorgeous in the glass and on the palate. Agree with prior review that it's at peak, but will likely stay there for a few years.

Popped and poured. Upon opening this was a bit musty and a touch caramelized. Had me questioning if I had held on to this for too long. After about 45 minutes, this opened to reveal dark fruit and well integrated tannins. Full bodied with a medium finish. This is at its peak and while it will last several more years, is at peak right now.

Dark Ruby, moving toward purple with bottle aging - Strong scents of alcohol, as well as spice, pine and asphalt - the wine is very good - strawberry jam up front with a full and velvety mouthfeel, which eventually gave way to vanilla and oak on the long finish - I thoroughly enjoyed this pour

Given my experience with Keenan (and not negative comments on Cellar Tracker), this was a bit of a disappointment. Very dark color, almost black. After about 30 minutes of air, the nose was oak and more oak. After another 30 to 60 minutes, it displayed currants and a more reasonable amount of oak. Mostly plums on the palate, along with hints of wet leaves, etc. Fairly viscous, but the finish was only OK. Not unpleasant but nothing to get excited about. May need another year or so.

very dark color, bricking at rim. on teh nose dark fruits, integrated new barrique baking spices, some earthy damp mossy/soily aromas. on the palate moderate acids, coarse midpalate that is weighty, firm oak tannins that are a bit rustic and square, moderate + alcohol. balanced wine, ok length, very good intensity, ok complexity. the fruit on this wine was a bit muddled to me... the texture a bit disjointed. this bottle felt a bit past its prime to me though to be fair i really am not a huge fan of aging wines of this place and style.

Wine was far more tannic than I expected.left it open overnight then pumped off in the morning. By evening, the tannins were still very prominent. But at least the flavors were peeking through. Will hold the next bottle at least 2 years.

Bricking on the edge. Pnp with vinturi aerator. Hints of heat/ETOH on the nose. A bit too oaky for my liking on the palate. Mostly earthy notes with minimal fruit. This was probably better 5 or so years ago. Strong old Bordeaux profile on the nose and palate. Not what I would have expected from a Spring Mountain cab from a decent vintage at this age.

Very much Bordeaux style vintage, dry and chewy, with dusty cherry fruit profile and loads of structure. Modest oak evident mid-palate and dry and tannic on the finish.

very substantial cabernet - always liked and enjoyed Keenan's quality and consistency, but felt it was a second layer cab not on the level with Heitz, Phelps, Inglenook and Philip Togni. This is an extreme value, though for a Spring Mountain cabernet and should be recognized as a consistent, reputable product that is truly a bargain at $40 !!! Shout Wa-hayyee!!! A real keeper and watch this property in the future.

This is a bold Cabernet, needing more time than the 15 minute decant I was able to give it. Cocoa, oak and cherry fruit flavors with a lot of strength, but masked by tannin at this point still.

This wine really opened up after 2 hours! This is the first of 6 bottles- will wait or decant for 2 hours on the next bottles. All the right CA cab flavors noted by others. Full but not fruit bomb...worth the wait imho.

Consistent with previous notes 14 months ago, only it's improved. Dark, chocolate, chewy fruit coming through on the palate, with loads of blackcurrant, creme de cassis, espresso bean, and dried tobacco. Balanced and concentrated. Finish is refining nicely. In peak window so drink before 2020. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 93.

Thought this was surprisingly good. Suspect there is a lot of Keenan's Spring Mtn fruit in this. Medium ruby color. Medium bodied. Layered and complex with sour cherry, cola, pencil lead and a hint of cedar on the palate. Long, lingering finish with a touch of oak.

Love the nose, but the palate and lack of finish kill this for me. Light, delicate, almost devoid of fruit, I thought this might be shut down hard. But the finish is also light and quickly disappearing. The aromatics indicate a 90+ wine but with no followthrough this is almost a waste. Like a washed out second wine. I'll have to stick to the "reserves". There's more in the cellar, so happy to recant if it "blooms".

On the tip of the tongue I am getting a quite light hit of black fruit. Anti-fruit-forwards, this might be your wine. The wine has to, pretty much, sit on your tongue for a few seconds before fruit is detected. Very interesting. Still some quite stiff tannin. As the wine warms, a bit, I seem to get more berry flavor, but, again, more towards the back of my tongue/palate than the front. I am enjoying this wine, but I don’t think it is not a wine for the masses. It might be that it is closer to the end of its life than the beginning.

Score is based on potential, because it's a little too tannic right now. Mostly currants on the nose. Currants and a mixed bag of berries on the palate. Medium body with a pretty good finish. With fatty food, there's a bunch of creme de cassis on the palate, but by itself, it's dominated by the tannins. I'm waiting until mid-2019 to open my next one.

Nose: Ripe plums, floral perfume complicated with hints of fresh mint and herbs de Provence. Palate: Still big fruit although more minerality now. Flavors of blackberry, blueberry, still firm tannins and a medium long finish. Last notes were on 1/21/15 and this last bottle is great. Fruit while still very present is not what is was last time so drink up anytime from now to the next year. Still 92 points and very solid.

Dark, rich, black fruits, ripe medium to full bodied on the palate, medium plus finish, solid. Nice as pop and pour but fills out a bit with air. Still showing some tannins and structure but that is in the background now. Tasty cab.

Opened and consumed with seared flank steak, roasted potatoes, and salad. Needed about 30-min to open up. Dark purple. Nose brings spring violets, boysenberries, candied cherries, wild herbs, and hints of lavender. The palate is medium-full, round, velvety, and supple, bringing blackberries, blackcurrant, plums, creme de cassis, tobacco, eucalyptus, dried leather, and dried cranberries into the finish, which is near perfectly integrated and balanced. Should be great over the next 3-5 years.

Double decanted (sloshed around in decanter); minimal sediment. Deep ruby red. Subdued nose of dark fruit. On the palate, medium-to-full bodied dark cherries and very prominent acids. Long finish in which the tannins are dominant. At $40, not a very good QPR. However, probably not yet in its prime drinking window.

Dark mountain fruit with substantial tannins, classic Keenan. The wine looks purple colored with medium legs. There is light sediment in the bottle. The body is medium/full with a medium finish. The wine has low acidity. Would benefit with another 3-5 years. Very enjoyable with a grilled ribeye.

I think this might have been too young to open, tight nose not giving much other than vanilla. Similarly on the palate, this was big, with persistent tannins that after two hours led to a smoky gravelly wine. Felt it needed more fruit to balance it. Needs time.
A Stefania 2009 Crimson Clover vineyard totally blew this Keenan away.

Second time trying, again I love this wine. Powerful with dark fruits, licorice, asphalt, crushed flowers, and eucalyptus, Keenan is bringing it. This isn't candy like, so it may appeal to old world wine drinkers as well. It held strong and kept improving over 2 nights.

Expected dusty Cab nose that came with excellent bright, rich fruit. On the palate, there was a luscious quality of roundness that was well integrated. It moved from a fruit and acid spike to an even fruit, ending with a long bold finish with recessed and smooth tannins. Quite a nice wine.

Very similar to last notes on 7/15/14 but more integrated. Fruits are more pronounced with added plum flavors. Nose also shows additive aromas of fresh mint. If this had more tannins it would be a rock star. Score elevated to 92 on this bottle. One more bottle left and hope it is just as good or even better than this. Good stuff!

Second bottle on Xmas eve, no formal notes. Had this after an 06 pride and this was a bit lighter on its feet, less fruit forward and ultimately more balanced. Gone in a flash but everyone liked it. Better than bottle from 13 months ago, should continue to improve for a while.

Decanted and enjoyed (day 1) over several hours. Deep purple. Nose opened up after an hour... wonderful violets and lavender, followed by blackberry and some earthiness. Palate is black cherry and a nice tartness and a little acidity going into the finish. Tannins follow at the very end of (after?) the finish... very nice... but expect the complexity to improve with 2-3 more years. Glad I have a couple more to see this progress over time. Good QPR for an interesting and unique wine.

Nose: Dark fruit, tar and spice aromas with subtle herb and floral traces. Palate: Soft styled with mild tannins and acids. Dark fruited with some spice and a soft finish. Nice Cab with good balance but wanted more for almost $40/btl on sale. Even after air time this shows about the same as pop and pour. I would not wait on this and my last two bottles will be drunk up within the next 1 to 1 1/2 years.

A nice floral note on the nose. This wine definitely packs a punch. Dark fruits, cassis and melted licorice lead the way here. It is not overly sweet at all. It has a nice long smooth finish. This is an excellent Napa Cabernet for the money.

After 2 hours decanting, dark fruit aromas comes out. Plum and currant are focused at the edge of the glass. It's a great demonstration of Napa wine. Although the grapes are majorly from spring mountain, the wine is not too tannic like the wines from Pritchard hill or Howell mountain. The style is very approachable. On the palate, blue berry, mulberry, and licorice are filled. The full body texture is well polished and rounded, but time will pay back. It should be good for around 5-10 years.

Dark fruits, licorice, and forrest notes on the nose, very nice and vibrant. Same dark fruits and earthy licorice notes on the palate with a multitude of background spices mixed in. Firm tannins with great acidity to brighten the dark fruit and bring out red fruit and cranberry notes on the long finish. Nice fruit attack throughout.

Deep color. The nose is expressive, showing plenty of dark berries, cedar, flowers, and a hint of minerals. This is full bodied on the palate, with good concentration and a fair bit of finesse. The finish is long and fairly refined, showing just a bit of grit to the tannic structure.

Ran through a menu decanter. This could use another 5-7years in the cellar before opening again. Nice nose, unfortunately when I pulled it out from the cellar it was 55 degrees so it took a while to warm up and really get into the meat of it. Nice dense chewy structure. Still tight and wound up but this should be something really nice in a decade.

The wine looks dark purple in color. The legs are Slow. It smells like Blackberry, Black currant (cassis), Fig, Prune, and Coffee. It tastes like Blackberry, Black currant (cassis), Raspberry, Raisin, Fig, Cherry, Mineral, Oak, and Sandalwood. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Polished texture. The wine finishes medium-long. Overall I really really like this. Great texture, great finish, nice balanced tannins. Round and polished on the tongue with the fruit balancing out the oak and minerality. Solid and I just ordered more after I drank that bottle.

Aerate to decanter 3 hours, served non-blind. Lovely deep ruby color, lively. Much prettier aromatics than I was expecting, and much more purity and balance, too. I'm not sure why, but I was expecting this to be bound in wood and tannins, with so-so fruit. NOT the case. Instead, a wine that shows solid focus, purpose and is able to stand up to very bold dishes. Well-lifted, generous without going out of bounds. Impressive. 73% Spring Mtn fruit, the balance comes from Pope Valley. The 14,8% abv is very well integrated at this point. AG's 93 and (as usual) vanpe003's notes are spot-on. Drink thru 2025, highly recommended

as of spring 2013 needs 45 minutes in the decanter. even then, a not very agressive aroma. palate opens up with pepper, black currant, cherry, hint of vanilla and and a very subtle allusion to something dangerous and organic (tar? creosote?). lovely texture. an excellent expression of cab sauv. With rare exception, I've always had a soft spot for the styling of Keenan's Cabs. The '09 is probably one of the best I've had young. Aromatic cab fruit and cassis on the nose. On the palate, rich but not overdone. It's not a "precise" or "old school" cab, but rather for me it represents "New World" done well. Long and rich finish showing some fine but in now way overpowering tannins. Not sure if this has the structure for long-term aging. I'm thinking 2013 - 2020, give or take. That is in part because this is so approachable at present. This reminds me a lot of the '04 that I fell in love with. Great QPR.
Too bad AG isn't still doing California for WA, as the few data points I have suggest that his palate aligns nicely with my tastes.

Probably a mistake drinking this wine at this time it really could be helped by a year or 2 of cellaring. It started very promising with sweet aromas of candied fruit, fabulous color, and very long legs. The first taste of the wine was sour, heavy tannins, and strong alcohol. We decanted wine and the change was very noticeable, tannins much more integrated the fruit came forward along with tastes of leather and tar and great mouth feel with a long finish. Its hard not to like this wine and I think in a couple of years the rating will be 92+ and at $38.20 a good value.

Spring mountain winery, they get more sun up there than Napa floor. Really nice balance and acidity for Napa, but still the classic Cabernet fruit. 100% Cab, 3/4 estate, 1/4 Pope Valley. Tannins are smooth yet big. Very nice example of Napa mountain fruit.

Palate is black cherry and a nice tartness and a little acidity going into the finish. Tannins follow at the very end of (after?) the finish... very nice... but expect the complexity to improve with 2-3 more years. Glad I have a couple more to see this progress over time.
