Decanted it and was almost immediately ready. Absolutely exceptional. Very rarely a wine which scent is more intense, red fruits like rasperry. Incredible fresh taste although 15 years old. Keeps up in palate, long finish. No sign of aging, big pleasure.

Purple with crimson rim. Layered aromas built around stewed blue fruits, leather, dried meats and sweet woody spices. Lovely complexity. Fleshy and ripe on the palate with excellent supporting acidity and dissolved silky tannin. It's plush and effortless and hides its 14.5% ABV well. Right in its drinking window. Should hold for at least another 5+ years.

Enjoyed this wine on a cozy BBQ evening in our garden. It is time to open the 2008 - good wine but not much further development. Maturity seems to be reached. The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blueberry, cranberry, black currant (cassis), prune, pear, toast and vanilla. It tastes like blackberry, cranberry, black currant (cassis), orange, prune and chocolate. The body is medium/full. The wine has satin-like texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

I caved... Couldn’t hold out for 2020 to open my next bottle. It’s oh so good right now and paired very well with grilled New York strip, grilled asian chicken thighs, grilled bratwurst, roasted broccoli, and roasted butter nut squash. So sad I only have one bottle left in my cellar. The wine had some sediment which is easily filtered, if desired, and filtering made my mother-in-law very happy. The sediment doesn’t bother me.
12/15/2019: three days later, the final glass was still delicious and perhaps even better than day 1.

I mean WOW! This bottle was absolutely fantastic! Old world style, dark ruby/ purplish color. Musty on the nose with slight smell of alcohol but so smooth swirling around in the mouth and down the hatch. I am hoping this will continue to hold as I would love to drink a bottle every year or every other year. 80% Tempranillo, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon

Dark ruby. 80% Tempranillo, 20% Cab Sav. Opulent and expressive on the nose with lots going on. Plums, ginger, Xmas cake, figs, mint, smoke and spices. All over the place and very charming. After an hour or so, more noticeable notes of wood and oak percolate through. Apparently matured in 1 year old Bordeaux barriques - still enough to impart a lot of oak influence. Excellent mouthfeel, with plenty of acidity to lift an otherwise rich, full-bodied and imposing palate. Slightly chalky tannins.
Make no mistake, this is a bruiser, esp at 14.5% ABV. Whilst very good craftsmanship on show, to score more highly I prefer a bit more panache and elegance. At a certain point this Monasterio felt more intimidating than inviting, albeit always impressive.

Deep crimson color. Earth and must on the nose, with cherry, candied apple and herbs on the palate. Medium-bodied with nice acidity and mninerality. Clean finish.

Beautiful. Soft and elegant. A little oak still lingers but I expect that will mellow soon as it did dissipate with time in the glass.

This was a fantastic wine and was the winner when compared to the four other bottles consumed throughout the evening.
