La Paulée de SF Verticals Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): 11/08/05 Vertical. A favorite Jadot bottling of mine that really sings with 20+ years of age, so fun to check in on these youngsters together. The '11 is very fruited and simple/primary at this stage. Very hard tannins shut this down quickly. Needs time, and hopefully the fruit can hang in there while the tannins soften. Difficult vintage to call.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it is light ruby in color, with a garnet rim and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium intensity aromas of red fruit of strawberry and cherry, black fruit of blackcurrant, mineral notes of earth, floral notes of violet, oak notes of vanilla, pungent spice of pepper, kernel notes of dark chocolate, animal notes of game. The wine is youthful. Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, the wine has medium alcohol, medium body and medium intensity flavors of red fruit of cherry and cranberry, oak notes of vanilla, sweet spice of clove, animal notes of game. The wine has a medium (+) finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Bourgogne with reasonable intensity and got very good complexity, even though it is still quite young, the wine has a nice palate as well, well-structured and balanced, with nice concentration and a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now but can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

While this needs at least 3 more years in the cellar, this is a great wine. Tart red fruits, lots of mineral and crushed rocks, spice, orange peel, and red rose petal. This will put on more weight with more time in the bottle. If drinking now, decant for an hour. I won't be drinking my other bottles until 2020 or so.

Dried herbal notes like that of an over aged wine with a puckering level of tannin and acidity.
Huge disappointment

Quite light coloured, not particularly developed
Nice red fruit aromas, but a bit one dimensional
Medium bodied lacking the concentration I expect from a Grand Cru, still some hard tannins in the finish
A bit disappointing

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. In 11/08/05 vertical. Red and black cherry with good balance and elegance, especially for the vintage. Not quite Grand Cru density to e, but easy to enjoy now.

A Slice of La Paulée's 2018 Burgundy Producer Verticals Tasting (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Light, some brown. Funky nose. Light, earthy feel. Some green, not much fruit. This doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

A minerally style, with moderate acidity. Similar to their Beaune Clos des Ursules.

WINE 305: ADVANCED BURGUNDY (Vancouver International Wine Festival) (Vancouver Convention Centre, Vancouver, BC, Canada): It's educational to taste the wine side by side with Clos des Ursules from the same year. For me, the Corton-Pougets (Le Charlemagne is just a stone throw away) shows more mineral notes on top of red fruit, rose petal, baking spice. Medium (plus) body. Medium plus acidity gives structure to the wine. Velvety tannins. Medium plus finish. Needs time.
