  • WIMPS Champagne and Chardonnay Offline (La Trompette): Toffee apple kicks off the nose but some brown bread and sea air make this pretty intriguing.
Ripe and evolved on the palate - broad but juicy. Very long finish. In a great place!

  • Angerville spring break (Alex): In the glass, the wine is light amber yellow. The nose is round and mild. It has light spice notes, some oak, bread crust, and ripe baked fruit. On the palate, the wine has light oxidation notes, sweet fruit, and a finish with lemon. If I used a color to describe the taste, it would be light brown.

  • Wonderful after 21 years of aging! Apple cider and honey. Soft carbonation but it's still there. Golden color.

  • A blend of Chardonnay (64%), Pinot Noir (25%) and Pinot Meunier (11%). Plots vinified separately and aged in used, 4 years old Chablis pièce barrels before blending and bottling. No MLF. Aged for 12 years in bottles before disgorgement and release. 12,5% alcohol, 8,5 g/l residual sugar, 6,3 g/l acidity.

Quite deep lemon yellow color. Ripe and quite toasty yet somewhat restrained nose with aromas of sweet golden apples, some creamy richness, light yeasty notes, a little bit of toasted bread, a hint of mocha and a touch of caramel. The wine is developed, refreshing and medium-bodied on the palate with bright, dry flavors of red apples, some rich creaminess, light toasty autolytic notes, a little bit of tangy salinity, a hint of chalky mineral bitterness and a touch of caramel. High in acidity with a fine, silky smooth mousse. The finish is complex and nuanced with lengthy flavors of molten butter, some apple peel bitterness, a little bit of tart lemony citrus fruits, light autolytic notes of yeast and toast, a hint of tangy salinity and a touch of mocha. The saline and bitter elements carry on even after the fruit flavors fade away.

This was pretty similar to my experiences with the wine from 3 years ago, but I think the wine had lost some of its depth, complexity and intensity over this time. Even though slightly less impressive than the last time, this is still a wonderfully complex and rewarding effort for a Champagne and a terrific example of a barrel-aged bubbly keeping well for 20 years after its vintage. I doubt the wine will benefit much from further aging, but most likely it will keep good for years more. Great value at 56,90€.

  • Lovely Xmas day drink. Drunk over about 2.5 hours. Initially very bright, apple, citrus bit over time mellowed and developed more brioche and classical mature nuances. Very nice

  • Nose: Soft cheese rind, almonds, dough, honey.

Palate: Bruised apple, as someone else said, is spot on. Lemony citrus to go with it. At first, something like a like concentrated sweet peach and honey. Those flavors give way to minerality and long, bready finish.

  • Two consistent bottles. Much more development since my previous bottle three years ago. However, not even close to the magnum I had earlier this year. Bit of funk blew off quite quickly, leaving a rich wine with broad aromas still somewhat fruit driven. Buttery and bit of honey. Some sherry and grapefruit notes showing. 92-93p. Not sure if this will improve overall form here.

  • Magnum. Wow. I have enjoyed this wine before from regular bottle, but this was really a big step up. Fantastic balance. Lots of development but still with lovely, precise fruit and freshness. Some chalky notes towards the lingering finish, reminded me of the 95 Heidsieck BdM. Pure class.

  • Very good. Still quite youthful but some nice yeasty notes. Still fruity and floral too. Really liking this. Plenty of life left.

Served blind.

Slightly developed, pale honey yellow color. Developed, complex and toasty nose. Somewhat odd aromas of rye bread and buckwheat in the initial attack, but after a bit of air these aromas blow off and delicate aromas of green apples, oven-fresh brioche, some smoke, light nutty tones and a hint of mocha emerge. Thoroughly attractive nose, really. The wine is quite light-bodied and somewhat developed, yet still very lively and vibrant on the palate with lovely, racy acidity and very fine and quite persistent mousse. There are complex, mature and slightly oxidative flavors of chalky minerality, roasted nuts, some smoky tones, a little bit of bruised apple, a hint of tart lemony citrus fruits and a touch of mushroomy earthiness. The finish is long, dry and really complex with bright, acid-driven tang, minerality and captivating flavors of roasted nuts, green apples, some apple peel bitterness, a bit of baked apples, a hint of chalky minerality and a touch of pithy grapefruit.

At first the wine seemed quite odd and a bit off, but fortunately those characteristics blew off rather fast and revealed a beautiful, nicely matured Champagne underneath! Almost everybody thought instantly that this was an aged Champagne and after a few misses I guessed correctly that this is Gratien's Millésimé Brut 2000 - having tasted this only two months before, I recognized the style. Very lovely, rich and complex effort. Possibly there is some room for further development, but the wine is nevertheless quite close to its peak. Drinking wonderfully now, but most likely will keep for a good handful of years more. Superb value at 56,90€.

  • Wine-Pages Glasgow Festival of Wine Post Offline (The Western Club, Glasgow): A rich, somewhat sherbetty nose.
Rich, full palate. Definitely briochey rather than bready. A peary note on the finish. Seems a tad on the sweet side to me.

Very intense, somewhat developed lemony yellow with a golden hue. Really attractive, complex and wonderfully toasty nose with ripe, autolytic aromas of brioche and honey, dark-toned toffee spice, some mushroomy earthy tones, a little bit of lemon marmalade sweetness, a hint of mocha. The wine dry and quite light-bodied yet still suggestive of developed concentration with mature, complex flavors of molasses and caramel, tart green apples, some nuttiness, a little bit of autolytic brioche and roasted nuts and a hint of chalky minerality. The wine is high in acidity with very fine and minuscule, yet incredibly persistent mousse. The finish is long, toasty and complex with intense aromas of roasted nuts, caramel, some autolytic toasted bread, a little bit of lemon marmalade, a hint of bruised apple and a touch of coffee.

A real stunner. Enthralling depth, complex and harmony. In a wonderful phase right now; probably will keep, but I doubt the wine will develop from here. Stunning value at 56,90€.

  • From magnum. Fresh on the nose, mineral, lime fruit, apples, white stone fruit. Slight notes of nuts, brioche. On the palate again bright and lively with great acidity. Refreshing with good length. No rush. 90-92

  • Quite aromatic with fresh citrus in addition to some maderized yellow fruits. A rich, fruity and generous champagne. Quite elegant too.

  • Steak wines @ Lurra (Lurra, London): Magnum. Far fresher and brighter than the normal bottle. Significantly less crème pat and a little more ginger and oak spice on the nose. Fresher on the palate with good acidity and poise. Lovely. ****

  • Toasty aromas on the nose. Very dry and crispy showing strong bread and toast with a bit of citrus on the palate. Really mouthwatering stuff. Had a glass at Finnair Plus tasting at Vanha Ylioppilastalo.

  • A private tasting (Rotterdam, NL): Tasted non-blind. Fermented in cuve and aged for six months in barrique, non-malo. Chardonnay-led, this is still fresh and energetic, elegant, floral and citrussy, with a nice touch of red apple and a hint of nutty evolution. Well-balanced, a lovely wine.

  • Blind. Fresh with lemon and crème pat aromas. Gives the impression of either being a B de b or at least being Chard rich (turns out to be 64%). With air it puts on a bit of weight and starts to show a spicier and richer element whilst retaining its freshness and line. Lovely. Aperitif to food. ****

  • Very Strong and sophisticated champagne. Delicious but as others have noted quite austere at moment (but also rich). Will try second magnum around 2018

  • Once popped, it came across as a bit (too) sweet/fruity. Around 30 minutes later it opened up to a wow!. Powerful and rich, quite buttery and bracing acidity. A bit citrus, red apples, dough and minerals. Great showing now, still good potential for further development - at least next 5-8 years for sure. 92-93p

  • Still very good. Golden color, lovely nose of mature apples, brioche. Great structure, depth and body in the mouth, nice minerality, perfect acidity. Quite long and very pleasant.

  • Light gold colour. Fresh apples and some citrussy notes on the nose. Zingy lemons at first with emerging yeasty and hazelnut flavours on the palate. This has good structure, depth and some complexity with a persistent finish. Suprisingly youthful and seems to have quite a bit of development left in it. Very good pqr imho.

  • As previous note. Fully mature vintage champagne, perfect balance between lemon freshness and bready complexity.

  • Tasted Feb 2015. £45.00 The Wine Society, UK.
Lovely vintage champagne from a year that most Press rate highly. Mid-straw colour, good consistent fine bead. Nose of caramel, biscuits, not intense. Tons of flavour in the mouth, is impressive, apples, biscuity, leesy, still firm structure, plenty of lasting flavour, a nice essence at the end, hints of wood, not completely dry. Not the very best vintage champers I've had, but at £45 a bottle not the most expensive either. Not yet fully mature, I think; if I had more I'd open it in 2018. Marked it Silver+.
