Tasted a bit after opening, but this note is 5 days later. Finally... this is showing as I had hoped. Ethereal. Prototypical Volnay spice with layers upon layers of depth despite a weightless elegance. Not L's style, but this is pretty dang brilliant.
Just make sure you give it proper time, at least at this stage.

Excellent producer and bottle. Red fruits dominant after 45 min of decanting (it was opening up well). Longer decanting calmed down the fruit, but I preferred it after about 45-60 min decanting.

This hasn't really come around and I wouldn't be in a hurry to try again. Still tight, still green. Loosens up a touch after a few hours. Bright, too bright cherry. Very stoney midpalate with some spice. Fruit is present but very shadowed. Puts on weight with time. After 3 hours the fruit is much more present but still lean. Can't shake the green.

Coravin'd 2 glasses into a decanter and let sit for 3 hours. Hints of menthol, game, and red fruit on the nose. Strong mineral backbone. Long, lean, a bit firm at present but definitely approachable. I'd give it a couple more years.

From the wine list at Rouge Tomate (NYC) - last bottle. Pnp - lovely perfumed nose of red fruits. This was drinking really well, red berries, earth and minerals with dusty tannins on the finish. Paired with the incredible Bison burger.

Excellent!

Bird's Eye View of 2011 Burgundy-The 2014 La Paulee Grand Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco): Wow, talk about the Platonic ideal of Volnay Taillepieds-here it is. Lean, stony, mineral with light red fruit. Interesting to compare this to the much riper, rounder de Montille example. There was nothing at today's tasting that spoke more of Volnay than this and the Clos des Ducs. Marvelous.

Clean. Clear, burgundy core. Very fresh nose, vibrant, energetic, precise, red berries, cherries, wet stone. Very much the same impression on the palate, precise, fresh and balanced. Long finish.

Flott vin, helt nødvendig med noen timer luft. Ganske grønn, men godt balansert. 90p.

Very pretty cherry and floral perfume nose. Tight palate with noticeable green notes. Strong minerality. A very pure wine. Needs time.

Day One in Burgundy: Fourrier, Mugnier, d'Angerville, Roulot (Cote d'Or): Tasting at Domaine. Fresh red cherry and berry aromas. More elegantly styled than the Caillerets with less firmness or intensity. Very textured, but some power and concentration emerge nicely at the finish.
