Christmas Wimps 2022 - A Letter from Santa Claus (La Trompette): Powdery, gamey nose, with violets and fruit pastille. Lots of succulent dark fruit on the palate, and the tang of blood. Managed to pull off being both deep in flavour and light on its feet. Such a great pairing with the slightly younger NZ Syrah, this one unsurprisingly showing more development, but the two working perfectly in harmony and with the venison dish.

1 hour decant. Subtle nose of sandalwood, leather, mint. Plum, bing cherry and eucalyptus in the mouth. The acidity was lacking, the finish was lacking as well. Not nearly as powerful as I was expecting, this Syrah did not hold up to the grilled steak and potato we had for dinner.

Very enjoyable. Worked very well with a Santa Maria style tri-tip. Not sure this has much life left.

Very pleasing nose, with sandalwood and rose mixed in with plum aromas. Lighter in body than I was expecting, this drank well from the moment opened.
