Although not undrinkable, this is surely starting to get into its death bed! The lushness has gone and it’s starting to get a bit flat and overly acidic. Gave up on this and popped open a 2015 which is bang on form!

Wine still holding up well. Black fruit now tastes more like dates or figs. Nice color and Low tannins and acidity. Both time and Bordeaux varietals have nicely balanced out the Sangiovese. However, still tastes dintinctly Italian. Not a stunner but a solid QPR.

Bricks edge to dark plum centre. Again slightly closed nose but some autumnal fruits there, along with a touch of wood smoke. Same acid and grippy tannins as last time but the fruit is perhaps drying out a little. There’s a richness there despite the dryness with some dark fruit flavours. Acid perhaps a little dominant but may be better with food. Slightly disappointing fading finish but, despite that good length: drops to a point and then holds it there!
After decanting and about an hour later it had opened up, particularly on the palate. Fruit was richer and sweeter; dryness almost disappeared. Maybe helped that it was with food (slow roast lamb) but it showed depth and fruit that just wasn’t there initially. Must remember to open i5 sooner next time!

Dark centre with paler rim...as expected. Nose quite clearly see but blackberries and raspberries in there somewhere. Very smooth with sot tannins (a result of 50% merlot perhaps) but good acidity with a bit of grip. More dark fruit flavours on the palate though all quite subtle and restrained. Good length with more cherries on the finish than raspberries. May open up over the meal...we will see!

Bright red fruits, cranberries and dried prunes with subtle cinnamon and toasted figs on the nose. Palate is full of rich red fruits and English breakfast tea. Tight structure. Mid-palate to finish transition is smooth. Finish is meaty. Good early drinking 3rd wine from Ornellaia.

Medium to full colour; plum/damson fruit, soft and perhaps a little flat and lacking in vigour and depth; previous bottles have been better, but this is uninspiring. Either a rogue bottle, or the wine is past its best.

This has fleshed out very nicely. Polished and glossy cherry and plum fruit with a hint of varnish. Very modern in style, perhaps lacking a bit of character, but it's moreish and is in a nice place between youthful and mature. The structure is well balanced and the finish is long. A few more years left. Good stuff.

I'm going to give this bottle the benefit of the doubt. The fruit seemed to have died and tings just came across as a bit thin. To be fair, the only comparable red that I've had recently was Chasse Spleen 200 which was excellent. Maybe a flawed bottle?

Weekly tasting group #219; A mixed set fully blind tasted. (@ My place): Beautiful bouquet with red and dark forest fruits, earth, smoke, cigar box and some bell pepper. On the palate ripe red and dark berry fruits, minerals, chocolate, licorice, a touch of sweetness nicely balanced by good acidity and mild, slightly sticky tannin. Beautiful wine in its early maturity stage. 89 – 90 Wille drink nicely until 2020+?

Still find this to be a good value super Tuscan even if i agree with several others notes that it is a bit closed and flat on the palate. Give it some time both in the bottle, maybe a few more years and proper airing before serving.

Closed, thin and quite austere - both on the nose and palate, which was surprising - especially for this vintage. The heavy-handed oak treatment totally dominates whatever black cherry and dark currant fruit character there is. Maybe I drank this too soon and it would have been better with another few years of cellar time. In any event, rather unimpressive. Hard to believe Ornellaia would put their name on something as undistinguished as this. Memo to self: avoid second (and third) wines of prestige labels from now on. 50+5+11+13+6=85

Had it for 2015 New Year's drink. Largely agree with the earliest comments, dark purple. nose is typical Ornellaia with floral and honey bouquet, palate was still closed, high acidity, and metallic. Didn't open up next day, and a piece of cheese to match did not soften it. Day 2, still closed. And, amazingly, Day 3, finally came around, and was singing! I never had to wait that long before, but anyhow, was worth waiting. I would wait for at least 3yrs to open another.

Agree with prior tasters that this is a bit closed. What shows through is promising. Popped and poured, this had a Bordelais nose of dark red fruit, graphite, cedar and pepper. The palate was constricted by tight tannins and a tart finish. I'd recommend at least two hours of decanting on this if it must be consumed today; it has enough structural support that another five years of bottle age (on the inside end) would likely support a marked improvement and a higher score.

Dark ruby turning violet at the rim with a rich nose of black berries, vanilla and licorice. The palate is rich, young, and lively on acidity with very smooth, silky tannin. Tasted blind. Expensive oak, plenty of extract, green luxurious herbs, mint, gunpowder. Best wine so far in this tasting. Solid palate, monolithic, excellent acidity. Slightly short on the finish compared to the overall quality but it just needs time. I've no idea of what it is, but I like it.

Dark fruit, integrated oak, sour cherry, gunpowder, leafy herbs. Strangely enough the nose reminds me very much of Carignan. Monolithic palate, still young, cherry and tomato fruit, oak, more gunpowder. Finishes well with that salty, minerally gunpowder thing. Needs time. Good value

Red fruits (blueberry and red cherry) with some toastiness and just a light hint of earthiness. Acidic and tannic, with a medium to full body, it has the energy and strength of a young wine: I would probably age it a little bit more, hoping for some complex earthy aromas to develop. At present it's ok, but better enjoyed with the proper food.

Fine nose, sage, cherries, blackberry, chocolate with some wood present. Tight, with dark fruit ,mainly cherries and blackberry, earth and a touch of chocolate from the wood. Nice everyday Tuscan wine, that we know will improve with cellar time, if you find it worth waiting for, and to sacrifice cellar space. Good qpr, definitely way over the price tag.

50/30/20 Merlot/Sangiovese/Cabernet. Nose shows spice right away, white/black pepper, dried cherry, dried cassis. Popped and poured. The wine was medium to dark purple in colour. It offered blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, spices, chocolate, cigar tobacco, cigar smoke and coconut on the nose. On the palate the medium-bodied wine showed blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, wet stone, spices, vanilla, chocolate, coffee and coconut, paired with medium-level ripe tannin, medium-level acidity and a good, creamy mouthfeel. Although the wine was aged in second to fourth fill barriques it came across as heavily oaked. A solid, young wine with plenty of fruit that delivered against its price, but needs another year in the cellar to settle. Start drinking in 2014. 87+

Medelstram, syrlig, fruktig smak med bra längd.

Very fruit forward, nice wine to go with a light dinner or lunch. Smooth, and not very complex. Enjoyable wine

probably too young, and no chance to really decant - but this wine had good, bright plum and cherry flavors. Tannins are a little pronounced, but this feels like it will come together nicely.

Ordered 2 bottles off the wine list at the Precinct. No notes. Overall impression: Very good QPR blend of Merlot, Sangiovese, and Cab Sauv. Paired well with food. Nice to drink on its own. Liked it a lot. Everyone liked it.

First bottle of 2011 after going through all of the enjoyable 2010s. Not quite ready to drink as some more time might help, but enjoyable nonetheless. There is quite a bit of tart cherry and some nice raspberry and an abbreviated finish.

Medium body, short finiish. Not what you would expect from this type of wine. Some black fruit but very muted. Lacking punch. Drink now.

Sydney Italian Wine Festival - General Tasting: Licorice, meaty, pepper and red currant aromas. Bright mouthfeel, the texture is good though it could use some more structure. Nice wine for the medium term.

50/30/20 Merlot/Sangiovese/Cabernet. Nose shows spice right away, white/black pepper, dried cherry, dried cassis. Palette starts with sour earth, sour raspberry, dried mushroom, sweet pepper, medium plus tannins quite evident, medium acidity, fairly big structure overall. Nice bold, dry style from obviously famous producer.

We went through a couple of bottles at dinner and I thought this was a solid crowd-pleasing wine. Very smooth and easy to drink. Doesn't have a lot of soul, but is quite well put together and went great with pasta dishes. Excellent restaurant wine.

Start drinking in 2014. 87+
