Community Tasting Notes (8) Median Score: 89 points

  • PnP. On the nose plum, a hint of earthiness and a warm impression, on the palate smooth and round with some spiciness, long finish. Mature now and typical Primitivo, slightly rustic but easy to pair with food, drink now or soon and don't drink it too warm.

  • Colour like a youthful and concentrated Primitivo. Did not decant, muted nose at the beginning, then for a short while raspberry (surprise) that gets replaced by typical notes with plum and warmness. Palate typical for Primitivo, fruity with decent tannin. Did improve a lot within the last year, 89 points now, may improve with further cellaring.

  • Full body, dark ruby red color, highly aromatic, currants, tobacco notes, spices and smoky wood aroma, black and red currants, spicy and peppery on the palate, fresh red fruits on finish, long finish, powerful, rich, bold, balanced and structured , complex, lovely acidity but too much sugar, moderate tannins, food friendly. Perhaps best match is meat but well associated with fowl and grilled vegetables. Open about one and half or two hours in advance. Serve 20º - 22º. Drink now and next two or three years.

  • Stylish, tasty Primitivo. Deep rich purple color. Smoky, toasty cherry, currant and blackberry nose. Surprisingly rich viscosity and mouth feel. The close to layered and complex, dusty, black cherry, blackberry and red raspberry, fruit is enhanced by cinnamon and other cooking spices. Gritty, very dry tannins. Nice combination of bright upfront fruit with "Old World" earthiness. The finish leaves the sense of charcoal infused, chalky black fruit nicely balanced with correct acidity.

  • PnV. Crimson purple not saturated with garnet rim. Dusty blackberry with a hint of sage on the nose. Medium weight with ripe fruit skin tannins. Bright red fruits with a touch of blackberry and earth. Fresh and elegant. Really is a Tuscan take on Primitivo or a claret style of Zinfandel. Slightly disjointed will be interested to see what the remaining half the bottle taste like tomorrow.

  • Weekly tasting group #109; Wines with 3 glasses in the Italian wine bible Gambero Rosso plus a few special extra's. (@ WW): The bouquet did not show much. On the palate a sweet start and juicy red fruits as well as some chocolate. Firm acidity and bitterness, also in the finish. A bit heat as well.

  • “Mixed Bag of Italian Wines”-Tasting, Flight 4, Wine 6 (non-blind), in December 2013. The wine was dark purple in colour and offered cherry, blackberry, plum, tar, cocoa and cinnamon on the nose. On the palate the wine showed cherry, blackberry, plum, chocolate, sweet spices, vanilla and cinnamon, paired with medium-plus acidity, medium-level tannin and very good length of the chocolaty finish. A medium- to full-bodied, medium-complex, well-balanced Primitivo. Drink now and over the next three years.
