Great wine with deep rich flavors. Fruit is still young and fresh with raspberries, currants and strawberries draped over a solid core of earth and flint. Finish just keeps going. Wine has years to go.

Eucalyptus, methanol, black tar, plum and black currant on the nose. Medium tannins, minimal length, low on fruit. Did ok considering isn’t a great vintage.

Dark garnet colored, medium bodied, pure, bright expressive black and red currant fruits with notes of earth, black licorice, anise and hints of cedar turning to silky smooth polished tannins on the moderate finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2023/05/pour-boys-winers-diners-23-cityscape.html

licorice, leather, red currant, blackberries, asian spice, cedar, and forest floor.
Mountains generally do better in cold years in Napa. Nice perfume, the fruit is expressive but definitely can see its not as rich as the warmer years. Smooth and finessed. Nice stuff.

2011 may not have been a great vintage but this is a stunning wine! Cassis, cedar and spice on the nose. Beautiful fruit on the palate. Very balanced. Tannins well integrated. A lovely freshness given the acidity but what really struck me was the length. An absolute stunner.

At just 7 years of age, this is a clear stunner. Licorice, blackberry and blueberry liquor and menthol jump out of the glass. The wine seems to be entering it's drinking window thanks to a less than great vintage. As is always the case with this outstanding producer, the wine shows perfect ripeness w/o being heavy or overly sweet.
Another thing of interest is that I tasted this wine against a mid-price Merlot. Diamond Creek has so much more concentration and extract, and the tannins are so much more powerful, yet it was easier to drink than it's cheaper counterpart which had less body and less tannins, but at the same time not nearly as ripe. A good reminder that it isn't just the quantity it is the quality that matters.

Brilliant and in the running for best of the trip (including Continuum, Colgin, O'Shaughennesy, Seavey, Joseph Phelps, also 2001 Angelus and 2000 Leoville Poyferre at TFL).
Multiple passes for harvest (less than 50% usual production this vintage), hand sorting (twice), and farming with a full time crew with something like 6 years average career, winemaking in the Old World tradition and perpetuated through mentorship.
One for the all time album for me. Love love loved it.

Wine and Spirits Top 100 tasting - 2015 (The Metreon, SF): This is Brett-influenced! There’s an animal savoriness that, for me, makes this way more interesting than the Gravelly Meadow. Dark, intense cassis, with density of fruit, grippy medium-plus tannins and elevated acid. Well-structured. Delicious, and has a reasonable amount of complexity even in its youth. Score: Between 9 and 9.5

We sipped two years ago at The Modern at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City at The Bar It was our second visit. Folks, this is without question the best restaurant in a museum anywhere on the planet...at least of the many, many we have visited! Wine by the glass pretty darn good!

Young but drinking surprisingly well for a Diamond Creek at this age. Still quite tannic though.
