Simply stunning, very mature Montrachet. Darkish color and fabulous funky nose. Then a kaleidoscope of flavors that cascade over the tongue. Full and rich with a creamy texture and good acids underneath but this is fully mature showing notes of caramel, truffles, hazelnuts and tropical fruit that's been lying in the sun too long. So intense and complex on the finish. Decadent and funky and extraordinary! At Latour, Crystal Springs 2/1/17

Quite active and vibrant on the nose. Consistent acid backbone overlaid with citrus, light stone fruit, and floral notes. A more forceful profile at this point versus the '79. A perfect pairing with butter poached lobster

Most Epic Burgundy Dinner (Boulevard - San Francisco CA): Served double blind alongside Ramonet Montrachet 1979, 1985. Floral, intense and powerful apple with some lemon custard. Faint hint of sweetness overall and sweet spice with telltale Ramonet mint. Incredibly long. Perfectly harmonious. Sensational when open a couple of hours and served at dinner, even better four hours later after dinner. This was my favorite of tonight's vertical (96, 92, 86, 85, 79) that were all served blind.

From double mag. Nice golden color, still very fresh nose, minty, slight cooked apple, nutty. Palate is lush but a bit lumpy and heavy, still v decent for a 86 Chardonnay.

La Paulee Gala (New York, NY): This was almost certainly my white Burgundy of the night. Intensely rich, ripe and exotic fruit aromas with summer flowers and background mint. Palate shows such incredible harmony of ripe stone fruit, sweet spice and good acidity, minerality and energy. Better at finish than the start, and better at the final sip than the first taste. No rush to drink if I were lucky enough to have any in the cellar. Wow!

A Ramonet Montrachet Vertical & 1999 Grand Cru Horizontal, Mostly Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (The Grill - New York NY): Served alongside the 1985. Both opened two hours before serving. Enticing floral start with sweet and savory spice, all just behind ripe and rich orchard fruit and lemon custard. Complex and layered with unfolding nuance, and both sweet and savory elements seemingly coming and going. Best when revisited and finished three hours after first poured.

Given up for corked, then magically came back to life. Good depth, but only moderately expressive. 93

Montrachet Dinner: 10 Vintages of Ramonet and Marquis de Laguiche, 1983-2002 (Oceana - New York NY): What a sad disappointment. Very dark color and the extreme maturity to match. Good bottles are amongst the great white Burgundies in the world today, but tonight's bottle was not one of those. Barely drinkable, not enjoyable.

From magnum. A somewhat muted nose and flatter palate than this wine is capable of. But that is all relative. 93-
