Initially ripe and tropical with sesame, peach, corn, caramel and toffee. After two hours, the acidity bursted out and rounded off the baby fat. Classic old Leflaive Batard that is still youthful. 93-94

Served to me blind. Nose bursted out honey, ricecracker, minerals, sesame, coconut oil and creme brulee. Palate was so fresh with tightly-knitted core fruit whispering some aged white burg secondary character. Called it a 88 or 89 montrachet. Close enough. Rich and powerful. Amazing old leflaive.

Party at My Place: [Magnum] Pale gold in colour. Opened and poured right out of the fridge so the bouquet took a bit of time to open up and show where it was at. This was the second or third final wine out of a marathon line up, so it is hard to say for sure, but I don't think this quite matched the aromatic expression and degree of complexity coming off of the 1992 Batard. This seemed to have more of a straightforward and tiring cantaloupe and melon character without much citrus pep and was shorter on the white Burgundian spice and Leflaive smoke. The palate here, while bright and fresh, was lower on acid resulting in a more flabby and tired feel notwithstanding the remarkably light colour. Good but a little 'dumb'. This good looking magnum was from the November 2017 Bill Graves Acker consignment.

La Paulée de SF Gala Dinner (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): Rich and luscious fruit with so much youthful freshness for a nearly 30 year old white burg. Maturing white fruit flavors and spice throughout. Delicious.

NadNash dinners: Attractive straw gold, full bodied, thick lanolin fruit, waxy,a hint of butterscotch, but low acid - ultimately rather dull and therefore for such a grand wine a big disappointment

Rodger Arai. Quite some funk. Smoky, sour and corn chips. Love when it clears up. Serious intensity, persistence. Fine aged Burg.

Post Jayer Auction dinner with LC, LL, PL, AC (Otto e Mezzo): Gold in colour. Good minerality with ripe butterscotch covered pears. A little missing in acidity which made the wine less balanced.

Andy’s bottle. Clearly fading. Perhaps the Chardonnay grape is not suitable for immortality under any circumstance.
