First time trying a Ramonet montrachet. Opened an hour before serving. Colour was so bright and light. Lighter than even the 2011 laguiche Montrachet. On the nose, was floral and tropical fruits. The finish was long. Still not at its peak. Plenty of potential to age further. Beautiful wine.

Club Blind Tasting (Repulse Bay): Premox again! Served blind. Honeyed, caramel, candied fruit, good acidity. There is the richness characteristic to Ramonet. Can feel the hot vintage, balanced and mellow. Ramonet Montrachet 1999? Where is that Ramonet electricity? Should have been 95-96 points easily.

Long decant. Still clear yellow after all these years. Popcorn, brown butter, maybe a hint of honeydew melon, a bit of waxy character. Zero oxidation, fortunately, but mostly about the secondary elements now. Lightweight. Not too much punch on the palate. Relative to its age, this was impressively fresh, but I wouldn’t’ve suspected it was such an exalted bottle if I had drunk it blind.

Grands Echezeaux: Gorgeous wine, chiseled and lithe. Some thought it to be more advanced than it “should” be, but that seemed like nitpicking. A serious and impressive wine in its prime. I only wish we had it earlier in the night, palate fatigue had set in by the time this and other gonzo wines were served.

Montrachet: Ramonet v. Drouhin (Highlights): Gorgeous nose, much better rounded than that on the Drouhin with creamy and nutty notes. White flower and honeysuckle. Palate feels better rounded as well and with some savoury development. Rich and creamy, but still elegant and with the acid to balance it all out perfectly.

Initial pecorino and popcorn on the nose, lots of energy and cutting acidity (much more than described in CT notes), this needed an hour in the glass to settle and develop a corn nose, cream and dense body. A real pleasure although in this style I agree with LIBER below that the Ruchottes can be as good (and when from Moreau I would argue better!) for much less money. Just read this wine is now £1,000-2,000 a bottle. Will pop one later today to compare. 95pts and no hurry to drink here

Chez W, decanted an hour - pale yellow; tight, pure, beautifully delineated bouquet, honeysuckle, wet stones, white peach, hint of chalk and lime, very fresh and classy; medium bodied, some richness, very long and persistent, youthful, class in a glass, lovely energy to the fruit, very pure, but lacking weight of top vintage and no better than the outstanding Ruchottes 99! Very fine (18.5).

Lunch with a very generous client who ordered two bottles of this wine for 6 of us to share. My first Ramonet montrachet. Obviously still very young. Colour was just starting to turn a from light, straw yellow to a tiny hint of gold. Very precise, refreshing nose and palate. A hint of ramonet spearmint to go with lemon and apples. Whilst beautifully poised, I honestly didn't get any of the richness and/or power I would expect from this. An interesting contrast at well over £1000 a bottle with the ethereal 95 Grivault Perrieres from last week at just £10 a bottle...!

Still quite young and disjointed but showing that classic exotic tropical fruit side of Montrachet. Hints of charcoal and strong minerals round out the obscured finish. Needs time to come together. 93+

On one hand, it was stupid to open this bottle at this stage of maturity. However, I was concerned about premature oxidation and drove on. In a word, superb. No pre-ox. A complex bottle that became more so as the night went on. Loved every drop.

Some reductive notes that smelled like pickles. Once that cleared up, citrus and mint. Really clear and bright.

Great concentration, perfect balance. Elegant throughout. Even better when finished after 2 hours in glass vs when first poured.
