German Riesling from 1971 to 2012 (Los Gatos, California): Deeper yellow. Low pitched aromas. Big, round attack. Weighty with subdued, dry peach fruit, rising acidity, and lots of soil. This really opens beautifully and is excellent in the end.

Vibrant aromatics, focused on florals and citrus, with a touch of salty ocean. On the palate the fruit is bracing but not tart. A firm streak of acidity runs through the wine from start to finish. Pure guesswork on my part about sweetness, but it comes across as mid-range of trocken, as opposed to austerely dry. Excellent palate depth gives way to a long, citrusy finish. This is excellent, and drinking very well now, with ages to go for enjoyable drinking.

Quite evolved in colour and fairly expressive on the nose - petrol, herbs, yellow fruit, honey, minerality. Generous on the palate, good acidity, almost saline. Long. A little flabby towards the end of the evening. 89-91

Agree with nanda here. This showed much older than 4 years. What a lovely wine! This was big yet impeccably balanced. Lots of fruit on the palate, but very focussed and refined. Great minerality. A true joy to drink!

I served this blind to friends. Guesses were all over the place, but most thought this was older than it's 4 years. I really enjoyed this wine. It was bone dry and showed remarkable nuance and precision of flavors. Terrific balance and persistence. Medium weight, despite being a GG.

Leo's Blind Tasting Group - June '16 edition (Back Forty West, NYC): An impressive showing. The oak's fully integrated here, and it shows all those classic Pfalz grapefruit and pear flavours with a chalky and stony mineral base beneath. It's a big wine with lots of richness and remarkably well balanced thanks to a powerful acid spine. I'm not the biggest GG fan, but Von Winning's are really impressive.

Brilliant! Crisp and razor sharp acidity, yet elegant and with abundant minerals. The palate is integrated but still has a an almost saline touch due to the striking acidity. Overall impression is certainly positive with texture and structure as its manin components. This effort is totally enjoyable tonight, but certainly in it for the longer haul as well.

The wine offered grapefruit, kiwi, peach, tangerine and discrete oak on the nose. On the palate the wine showed grapefruit, kiwi, peach, tangerine, apple, pear and discrete oak, with high, mineral acidity and superb length. The medium-bodied wine was clean, fresh and balanced and even improved with moderate aeration. A great young Riesling! 91+ for now.

Expansive Riesling nose; not quite ready yet on the palate. A little hard to judge at the moment. 1.3-2.5% residual sugar allowed in German Riesling - I wonder how much this had.

Introduction to Riesling: Sweeter on the nose, a charmeur, but very elegant too. Basil! Together with citrus. Beautiful. Very sharp and elegant on the palate. Citrus and salinity. Tight, balanced, noble. Truly fantastic. The best of all six.

Young, fresh, incredibly fresh in fact, and intense. Grape, apple, and granite minerality. Very minerally. Deep. Medium body, slightly thin, but very pure, clean and fresh. Persistent and long acidity. Austere, apply and minerally palate. Not as fleshy as Pfalz can appear. But it is elegant and determined. No petrol now, but probably in 3-4 years. Drink on the fruit now.

Superb Riesling. Vivid chalky and stony mineral notes and higher toned herbal elements around a core of ripe grapefruit and pear, with a crystalline texture on the palate, power conveyed with finesse and elegance, and impressive length.

At the Theise DI tasting. Amazing depth and minerality. Powerful, broad and very intense on the palate, layers of rich citrus and stone fruits infused with stones. It's bone dry but shows a remarkable textural polish and ridiculous length. Fantastic.

Less evolved than the previous bottle. Generous, mineral, intense, but polished and smooth. Very long finish. Slowly drink up. 91-93

Not very rieslingisch. Oak that takes over, less acidity and fruit. Quite disappointing

Some development but in an akward stage. Not the freshness of youth nor the complexity of age. Good components though. Some diesel. Hold for now.

Für mich wirkt der Wein heute, entgegen vorangegangener Beschreibungen, sehr verschlossen.
Die Aromatik wird von herb-würzigen Noten dominiert.
