  • Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whts, & 8 Reds] from 04/05/19 + 5 Shared Bottles (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): THANK you for expanding my (limited) experience with AU C.S., Dr. Tom! :)

Apparently "only released in top vintages;"

N: RIPE, poss jammy, dk frts, POSS with undertones of pyrazines? Intensity lurking?

P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt firmed by some astringent pucker which fairly seamlessly morphs into quite a LONG, impeccably BALANCED finish with a tangy/swt/bitter trialectic to the FEW remaining tannins. At its peak (?), but showing NO signs of tiring, drink this gem now & through '21, POSS longer. VERY impressive! 14.0% ABV; My EXC/EXC+. 95 pts James Halliday, and 93 ea Jeremy Oliver, The Wine Front (Walsh), & WE @ $83!

  • Dinner at Provisions with friends: Decanted for around an hour before tasting. Right away the color was noticeable, almost purple in color showing no signs of the age, still very bright.

On the first sniff the eucalyptus nose was almost overwhelming. Just a ton of eucalyptus, I was worried it was going to hold on and we wouldn't be able to get past it, but after a few swirls it really mellowed out. Bright fruit flavors, red and black berries, plum, currants. The eucalyptus never went away, also signs of menthol, granite and a little graphite. Tannins are M+ but softened a little with the age. Acid M and M+ to high alcohol, but had enough going on to not be distracting.

A very nice example of a Aussie Cab, likely has another 10+ years of life, tasted much younger than 7 years, would be interested to try in 5-10 years...
