Pop and pour... Smokey cherry and slight orange color [4] Cherry and red fruits on the nose [13] Medium boldness and tannins, earthy (peat moss), some legs but virtually no sweetness or hotness, but certainly acidic [17] Pomegranate and spices...subtle mint and rose petals, with a dry finish [6] 4-13-17-7 [91]
By end of first glass...fruit flavor softened and dryness more pronounced.
I decanted three test of the bottle and ir opened up with a smoother finish. I increased my rating to 91.

This excellent Barolo from the cru of Castelleto is really open for business. The bouquet has a mix of cherries and blueberries, rose pedals, some herbs, almost some pepper and some slight heat indicating the 15% alcohol. The wine is full bodied with some inner sweetness and quite a long finish, the tannins are holding everything in check and balanced. I would guess it can easily stay at this level for another decade or more.

Unlike previous Seghesio's that I have tasted, this one did not work for me. The 2010 has the strong flavor of graphite, and not much fruit. Some fan's of Seghesio will like this vintage, but it did not work for me.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+: See through crimson, pale rim with orange hues; roses, menthol, orange peel, light leather, elegant, soft tannin, puts on weight with air; tasty.

First night, decanted 1-2 hours and ate with grilled meats. Nose had floral hints, some fruit, maybe a bit meaty and perhaps minty. By itself, tannic and a bit dry. Medium bodied, not much of a finish. It was simple and enjoyable.
I corked it and put it back in the cellar for two days.
On the second night it really opened up. The nose was fruity, not nearly as dry... and the finish is quite interesting. There's something, which sort of flashes across my tongue. It's fruity, a bit sweet, a little dry... but it hangs there. Quite enjoyable.

Italian Wines @ Iron Gate (Iron Gate - Washington, DC): Richer, very floral. Deep, firm, but accessible. Black cherries, tart currants, nice velvety feel with dusty, rocky elements. Very pretty but three years in the cellar would be a good start.

In the bouquet herbs, licorice and chocolate. On the palate good and juicy acidity and round tannin.

Decanted for 2 hours.
Beautiful brick, somewhat floral noise, forward tannins and satisfying acidity

Sour cherry, orange, rich, nutty, dry finish, drinks above its price point.
