Still just ahead of a peak drinking window but plenty enjoyable with some air. Lovely red cherry fruit with spice and emerging earth tones. Bright, polished fruit with a old vine concentration yet elegant. Somewhat firm tannins that soften with air. Peak is getting close ... 2-3 years, perhaps.

Dinner at Terroir (Utrecht, NL): [Restaurant purchese] No detailed notes. My first Fourrier; what an utterly delicious wine! Not necessarily the most complex wine there is (even after 11 years), but it makes it up (and even more) by being so extremely drinkable and enjoyable. Red fruit, floral, coca cola, earth. Lovely depth and persistence!

In a great spot. rlove's note hits it for me- "Red berry and Gevrey soil tones. Lush and silky with bright acidity and good concentration to the red fruited, medium weight flavors that offer good persistence and a fine mineral underpinning. Fourrier's 2012 Aux Echezeaux is everything you want in red Burgundy." Everyone at the table was wowed by this wine.

I was surprised that this wine was slightly brown when poured initially. I let it breathe for a couple of hours and it showed okay, but lighter than expected. The palate is juicy red fruits with an exotic, tropical aspect, almost passionfruit. Plenty of baking spices on the nose and palate. The palate, however, lacked depth or gravitas and I could have gotten a bright, tasty Pinot or Bourgogne at a fraction of the price. Also, barely any tannins, although there is decent acidity. With grilled steaks in the Berkshires and the Borgs.

Classic burgundian watery reddish color. Not much of a nose to describe, at least for me. Deceptive light juice on the front end with a spicy overtone, well-balanced with multiple sensations yet, of course, subtle. Wow. This would drink well with almost anything of substance.

No rating as I opened in the name of science... Being Fourrier this was most excellent. Having said that, it was like most 2012's I have had so far - big, tough, and not all too subtle - which is the antithesis of the delicacy I usually associate with Fourrier's wine. Along with other '12's, I think this is one to age a bit longer than usual (maybe like the 2005's?).
