There must be bottle variation with this wine as I’ve had two bottles in the last 6 months and this second one was much better than the first. The second one was from a long Coravinned bottle from a friend and even then benefited from air suggesting that the issue is this wine needs decanting or more time to age. I foresee a great future unless it’s just bottle by bottle.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): See through deeper ruby; sweet nose, strawberry pie, herbs, slight pine, sappy, pure fruit but oak is strong right now, solid, young, sour cherry, initially in Clos des Mouches but a bit more generous and darker fruit.

We liked this first night, but thought it suffered a screaming death by time we got around to drinking again two nights later. It WAS fruity, well-balanced & pleasant acidity on first tasteing.

La Paulée de SF Verticals Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): 12/03/99 Vertical. Another fun selection of vintages. The '12 has tons of forward red cherry. Very young and bright red fruit with some spice and florals. Slightly drying on the back end. Needs time to soften and integrate, but like the potential here.

Pretty red fruit. Sweet cherries and loads of other red fruits - cranberries, raspberries, strawberries. Good structure to this wine. Obviously a young Burg that should age a long time. This wasnt off the charts but was a nice wine paired with a chicken for lunch.

well, this started of closed and without fruit and a bit oaky, unlike the grivot vosne romanee villages alongside it seemed to have just a hint of acid and something else that suggested there might be more to this wine, indeed on the third night a small amount of red fruit was appearing and this showed some potential... only time will tell how much, not sure i'm going to invest too much here for an uncertain future

Always one of my favorite red from Bouchard and 2012 is no exception. A deep, rich palate of dark berry fruit, violets and spice, brimming with mouth coating dry extract. One for the cellar.

Dark ruby red. Has a perfumed bouquet (plums, berries) that is very seductive -- I just kept going back to it, it is so exotic. Very complex in its flavors of rich red fruits (including wild tart cherries) and minerals, but somewhat austere in its finish. A stunning wine. Accessible now but needs more time. (Bouchard Pere dinner)

Evaluating Bouchard Père & Fils: 2012s and earlier vintages (Ripple Restaurant in Washington D.C.): I liked this wine as much as the Jesus in 2012, but for different reasons. The nose is so enveloping, with pronounced violet cherry and spicy aromas. The palate is tighter however, and some tasters at the dinner remarked that this wine was the most "Bordeaux-like Burgundy". Indeed, it could be also said to be "more Pommard than Volnay" but with plenty of elegance on the nose. A medium plus body, medium plus flavor intensity - all "medium plus" but in the sense that it really needs a few more years in bottle to sing.

2012 Bouchard dinner with Panos – Mostly Bouchards (Ripple Restaurant in DC): Really pretty but very structured wine. Pretty fresh black fruits, blackberry also a hint of raspberry, animal and mineral. Good concentration, polished palate, nicely layered fruits, good acidity and slightly dry tannins. More precise and purer than the Jesus. Different but I like them both.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy/Champagne Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. I found this slightly odd, with moderate fruit concentration and ripeness for the vintage and more firm tannins (relative to fruit) than what I'd expect from Volnay 1er Cru. I will have to try this again in the next year or two.

Medium + red. Cherry, cherry syrup. On the palate it has mineral, red fruit palate. This is structured with tannin+ acid enought to age. NOt showing any extra flesh.

Medium dark red. Cherry fruit, deep nose. It is the same on the palate - deeply flavoured of cherry and oak. Balance is appealing but certainly has the stuffing for long term cellaring. Long.

Rather flat. Balance is fine, clearly Burgundian, but very little fruit left.

Rustic and austere. Acceptable nose, unbalanced acidity, poor fruit, nor vibrant. Very boring profile. Ups!!!

Bouchard Père et Fils Tasting with Frédéric Weber (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Tasting, brief note. Ripe red fruit with background floral and spice. Rich start, followed by softer textures towards the brighter, minerally finish. I liked this much more tonight vs when last tasted 4 years ago.

Tasting at Bouchard, Beaune. This blows away the 2011 that I bought. Great nose with nice spice and funk on the palate. Liked this a lot.
