  • A fascinating wine, dark golden to amber colored; on the nose notes of acacia honey and a faint touch of botrytis. Quite nuanced and multi-layered.
On the palate it tastes completely dry with some hints of bitter orange marmalade. Firm but not protruding and well integrated acidity.
The wine went very well with melon and prosciutto and the following cod over spaghettini al pesto.

  • Amazing Loire Chenin Blanc with 10 years of age. Perfectly stored. Pulled a glass from Coravin => this wine sings. What a LONG finish..... great balance, with good acidity. In the perfect place for enjoying on its own or with food. If you have a few, suggest you pop one soon.

  • Honeyed golden color; nose of mirabelles, lemon and some smoky elements.
Very pleasing, harmonious and complex; excellent extract and a long finish.
Showed no oxidation; this wine was the favorite of the group of the three whites served the tasting of June 12 and certainly one of the better/more appealing ( to me) wines of this Clos.

  • Such an interesting and “intellectual” wine. Ever so lightly oxidized as this is a wine that sees no sulphur dioxide addition. It is a light copper color or some might say medium to dark golden yellow. Palate was more expressive than the nose on the whole. There were scents of light smoke, caramel, various stone fruit and chalky minerals. Palate had a little creaminess along with peach, caramel or rather burnt sugar and bright acidity. Medium to long finish. Nice with various cheeses and charcuterie as well as grilled chicken.

  • Decanted and tasted after 2 hours. Deep golden; medium intensity aromatics, most pronounced aroma is honey, quince; palate is full bodied, richly textured with a regalness to the mouthfeel, medium-plus acidity, dry, 14% alcohol but doesn't come across as too high, slightly oxidative throughout but not overly so; medium length finish. I'll reassess this over the next day, but right now the most impressive aspect is the mouthfeel, though it's a bit lacking in complexity for Chenin at this price point. I'll give my remaining bottles a good amount more age. 90
8 hours decanted: the palate shows a bit more fruit with some orange blossom and orange rind. Perhaps a touch better, but overall assessment the same.
Day 2: This does seem to show a bit more fruit on the palate, mostly citrus rind and orange, along with a slight salinity that seems to be new. Doesn't seem more oxidized as some wines do with more air. A slight improvement from yesterday, but in a way that makes it more interesting rather than more enjoyable. I would decant my next bottles > 24 hours. 91
Day 3: Honeyed components come out on the nose even more. Palate is not more oxidative than on day 1, which in a way makes this wine remarkably ageless. Overall score still at 91.

  • This wine benefits from age. Edges are rounder, finish is more refined. Beautiful wine.

  • Famously diffiicult winemaker, bottle variation to the extreme and yet this one was excellent.
Quince quince quine on the nose. Slight notes of "controlled" oxydation if such a thing can be controlled.

Complex wine for sure and very interesting. Got 2 left, will I have wait much longer to uncork them? The answer is a no.

  • Relatively expressive and straight forward Chenin Blanc notes (wooly, waxy, honey notes). Very sharp acidity. Does not have the level of complexity or depth of the other Coluee de Serrant. Good for now, but not sure how long it should be cellared for.

  • Fine Vines Fall 2017 Portfolio Tasting (City Winery - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Lemon curd and dried apricot. Dense, big and powerful, almost meaty. Very good now, with upside.

  • Golden, clear hue. Powerful apricot, quince on the nose. Some ox' sulphur bitterness... but truly a living beauty that coats the mouth and leaves an eternal finish. It's clearly recommended to carafe it. A beauty that should age and gain in precision. Try next one in 2020-22

  • Drunk over two days. Gold / amber coloured. Very rich, powerful nose: dried and caramelised apricot, tarte tatin, incense, sandalwood, and quince paste. Vivid acidity, supporting a fleshy palate with more quince paste, apricot tart, toffee apple, spice, hint of muscat, and a very long, sharp mineral finish. Good length. Immensely satisfying incarnation of chenin that sings of the terroir. Well worth the money. I think this could easily last another couple of decades or so.

  • Fine Vines Fall 2016 Portfolio Tasting (Fine Vines - Melrose Park IL): Tasting, brief note. Lemon peel and custard with dried apricot and a sense of toasted rye bread. Very charming and complex with an expanding finish. I have the feeling this wine needs a full evening's attention to really appreciate. I'd expect it will also be better with some more time in the cellar.

  • Vindredi (Bellevue, WA): Fragrant, beautiful nose. Flowers, sweet white grape juice, and honey. Lush, rich and dense on the palate; enough to come across as slightly sweet. Yellow stone fruit. Beautifully integrated with great acidity.

  • Popped and poured. Nose of spiced apple, pear skin, flowers and caramel, framed by saline minerality. The palate is something of a paradox - bone dry with just 0.5g/l of residual sugar, yet offering sweet impressions of honey, salted caramel and condensed milk - some alcohol warmth too. Powerful but elegantly composed, this just oozes class and potential. Superlative dry chenin. Excellent.

One more observation - the wine felt like it was starting to lose some of its intensity after 4 hours open, so I'd err on the side of caution if you are planning to decant (as per Joly's advice) or slow-ox.

  • The worst wine I ever tasted...enough said.

  • Golden. Smack on the nose aromatic. Slightly oxidized. Pears, minerals and honey. Longevity? Not sure as it's already showing signs of maturity. Judging from the Les Vieux Clos 13, public perception of this producer is about to change.

  • Served both from magnum&single bottle, this shows a great difference; from single bottle it is already quite developed with some richness, bees wax, some sweetness, minerality a broad and quite complex expression.
From magnum the wine is completely fresh, very closed fisted with citrus and minerality keeping it in a tight grip. #NewYearsEve@PPJ

  • Popped and poured, yellow-gold with glints of copper. Lovely nose of fresh apricot, ripe pear, lime zest, almond slices and an impression of minerals. A subtle note of petrol develops as this warms and aerates. Medium body, nicely concentrated with a plush mouthfeel. An absolutely piercing expression of stone fruits and saline minerals intertwine, seamlessly juxtaposing quiet beauty with underlying power in beguiling tension.
    This is thrilling.

Quick comment: Serve at a temperature more on the side of cellar temp than completely chilled.

  • Fine Vines Fall 2015 Portfolio Tasting (City Winery - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Peach and some dried apricot with a dense, meaty character. Very long. Very good potential here.

  • Fine Chenin Blanc!
Dense nose, with sweet tropical fruits, apricot nectars, honey and peaches along with a whiff of dry hay. Spices and white flowers.
Palate is fresh, round & dense, long and complex, with green apples, ripe white fruit, dry and sweet at the same time, bit oxidative in style (as expected) and very long and complex.
Young but enjoyable, well made and with very good potential.

  • Sattes Gold-Gelb

  • This wine is one of a kind. Complex already despite its youth. Long, fruity, but also a slightly feeling of controlled oxidation, almost like a white rioja. Built to last and develop.

  • Decanted for 2 hours. Subtle, yet complex and refined nose of quince, aromatic herbs, spices and minerality. Full-bodied, dense and very rich, yet elegant with multi-layered fruit, medium acidity and a very long, persistent aftertaste. Can be used as a red wine substitute. Paired perfectly with a saussage with aromatic herbs. Can be enjoyed now or cellared for several years.

  • Some wines from a trip; 6/19/2014-7/2/2014: Vigorous, fresh, mineral nose. Notes of pickle juice. Sweetness of chenin. Unique mouthfeel - dense, cloying, very balanced, white fruits, may be peach. This wine just possesses your senses and plays with you. I wonder what beast will it grow into with time? (A-)
