Decanted 5 hours before dinner with J & J. A fantastic, grippy wine that has structure, fruit and still plenty of tannins to hold it for another 5-10 years. The meal was confit rack of lamb. Twelve hours dry brined, baked in olive oil for 2 hrs and then 2 days submerged in new olive oil. Recipe from "Slow Fires".

I have been drinking this since 2008. I'm down to my last magnum. I open one every 3-4 years; I've had 4 so far. Every time I assume it will have softened and every time it is a monster with seemingly endless aging potential. It was an experiment in extensive whole cluster fermentation. Just a fantastic, big wine in a beautiful bottle. A work of art in every way....

Tim's 40th Birthday Pax Tasting (Issaquah, Washington): The Pangea wine gives off fragrant black and blue fruits and aromas of wild game and licorice. It was a deep opaque purple color and immediate hits the palate with dark blackberry fruit and notes of wild game. This is followed by notes of meat juices, graphite and a sweet spice. This another great wine that was WOTN for a few people. This was in my top 5 but didn't make the final top 3 spots. This wine will not disappoint--it's definitely something special to share.

Drank at Craftsteak in Vegas. Terrific bottle with the beef. Earthy and smoky on the nose. Still a bit tight initially, blackberry and herbs, a bit chewy on the finish

Great American Syrah Smackdown (My House): (from Mag) Full deep red purple color. Medium slightly canned black fruit nose with some hints of heat. Big tight black ruit with some sour acidity and coffee notes on the finish. Nice enough, but definitely near the bottom of this august group.

Great American Syrah Smackdown (Chris Hughes' place - Chicago, IL): Deep opaque purple with a rich, ripe nose. Smoky dark fruits, vanilla, toast and scorched earth aromas are found on the nose. Palate has thick, chewy, rich dark fruits. The mid-palate is bright and opens to show floral and herb notes over ripe fruits. Long persistent finish has blackberries. This didn't separate from the pack during the tasting but continued to improve over the evening. 2-3 points of upside. Finished in the lower half of the group's ranking.

Broke open a magnum for last night's dinner party. The wine more than held it's own against spicy thai pork, roast beef, etc. Still a little young, but was absolutely delicious. Big and meaty with tremendous fruit.

Amazingly powerful big and dark. Even after 2 hours in decanter it wasn't giving up much. Loved it but I'll wait another 5-10 for this bad boy

Hermitage-esque, this stuff is amazing. If you can still find a bottle purchase one. This will also last another 10 years easy. Great stuff!
