  • 2004 James Johnson Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Bisou

You think it can’t get bigger or better than the `03, just wait. Big, full-blown, and opulent Cabernet without going over the top. This is loaded with ripe black currants, vanilla and sweet, chewy tannins with a finish that goes on and on. This is serious Cabernet at its best! Only 175 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon made by the talented Thomas Brown (Schrader Cellars, Outpost, RiversMarie).

Granted it’s not everybody’s style but after two hours in the decanter, the alcohol seemed to wear off enough to enjoy this wine. Nearly black in color, powerful, thick, heavy and gooey with flavors of raspberries and blueberries with a little coffee – if you call this wine anything, call it smooth, but don’t call it light on its feet.

And If you consider Hundred Acre’s impossible to get Shiraz is 200.00 a bottle; 50.00 seems to be a steal for a powerful wine such as this – I will be curious to see what a few years does to this wine (if anything).

They say that timing is everything... Fortunately, our timing with this particular bottle was no less than perfect. The word incredible doesn’t do this wine justice. Mind blowing raspberry and cherry with a touch of strawberry on the nose; a surprisingly bright, light red gemstone color – the flavor was packed with fruit, but not overbearing, well balanced and nimble with a perfect finish.
