What a fantastic bottle of wine! This 8 year old Zinfandel blend is in a really good spot right now. The nose has red fruits, some milk chocolate, tobacco, and a touch of vanilla. The palate is sublime. Perfectly integrated tannins, powerful, and just plain delicious. This is drinking so well right now. I anticipate this will continue to drink well over the next 2 years.

Let me start by saying that I am not a huge fan of zinfandels, however, I was really impressed with how good this wine is! Drank over the course of 3 days and it continued to evolve and get better each day. The first day, still had a decent amount of tannins, good acidity and tasty overall. The second day a bit more of the same, though tannins toned down, started to show more tertiary characteristics. The third day, more of the same.
This is a nice blend consisting of 82% zinfandel, 12% petite sirah, 4% carignane, and 2% Alicante bouschet. These grapes mixed together really work well. And for a 7 year old wine it still feels incredibly youthful. Wonderful effort by Ridge, and a really well made wine. Pair this with anything and it will work.

What a lovely Zin! Not overly aggressive; very expressive dark berries (especially blue) with a mild dose of spice and smooth tannins. I think the the fact that this wine is 12% Carignane and 8% Petit Sirah helped smooth it out and amp up the fruit. I was a bit worried that I might have waited a year too long to enjoy this, but honestly, I think it can go another 2 or 3!

The Ridge wines are always very reliable and this wasn't bad, very drinkable. But why I have always liked Ridge is that usually they balance the sweet with the savory. In this one, the sweet was a little strong.

I bought 3 bottles of the Three Valleys and drank the first two shortly after purchase. They were OK but not memorable. But this bottle showed the value of letting the wine age just a couple years. This felt like it was at its peak, deep and round and rich, with the zin lending spice to the blend, and the PS lending a loving body and finish. It was a little hot compared to its older brothers (i.e., Geyserville and Lytton Springs) and somewhat more monotonic, but a great wine for the price.

Tasted blind. Clear, medium (+) ruby with a hint of garnet. The nose is clean, medium (+) to pronounced in intensity, with ripe to baked red cherry, black plums, herbs, mocha, baking spices and a little earth. The palate has consistent flavors, with ripe fruit and a slightly raisiny and oxidative finish, possibly because the pour came from a decanter and had been open for a while. Medium tannins, medium to medium (+) acidity and high alcohol (14.2%). Zin, Petite Sirah, Carignane and Alicante Bouschet. This is an appealing, complex wine which belies the fruit-bomb Zin stereotype. Drink now or over the shorter term.

Bright red color with a clear disc. Light floral and red fruit on the nose. Good acidity and the tannins are unnoticeable. Red fruit mainly cherry on the palate. The finish riminded me of a jolly rancher. At $25, I believe this is Ridge's lowest price red. Very good value here.

A big Meh esp from a producer with a big attitude...you'd know what I mean if you visit their tasting room in Sonoma Cty. I've had a zillion Red Blends that are as good and better, not too mention many better Zin from the Dry Creek Valley. BTW I carafed this and judged it over 2 nights.

Pop and pour. Somewhat one dimensional with sweet, dark red fruit. Not near the level of a similarly priced Bedrock OVZ but when out of town and in need of a PnP to take to a BYOB (as we were), it worked fine.

Big dark fruit jumps on initial palate. Bold and full bodied (almost syrupy), it finishes with an interesting interplay of black pepper and sweetness. Not your ordinary Zin. Will satisfy those who like fruit forward Zins.

Nice spices and red berries on the nose. Palate is big and generous. Finish a bit disjointed today. Feels like it might be better in a year or two if it integrates some more. But not sure how the fruit will evolve. We shall see! Love the field blend, adds a lot in my opinion.

Found their Lytton Springs to be a little metallic, so was trepidacious approaching this, but now completely won over. This wine was delicious. Quite obviously Zinfandel in the bottle, but seriousness added by the blending grapes. Clear range in the nature of fruit from fresh to dry, warming spice and dark chocolate, but none of it overwhelming, nor was the alcohol, which can be the case with Zin. Oak was not overt, in fact the wine was very balanced. Will become a staple, I think.

Paul Draper is a witch. How the hell does Ridge pump out this much quality at every price point? Black raspberries, currants, cherries, and hints of tamarind and wintergreen fill the nose. Medium bodied with plump fruit that feels svelte, restrained, well integrated, with very little trace of oak. It was so easy to finish the bottle.

Ripe and rich, but has some structure and does not cross the line into overripe. A touch of alcohol and some oak are noticeable. This was served a little on the warm side at Toomey's in Mammoth, but went well with the "world's best burger" and fries. Enjoyed it.

Tasted blind alongside two other 2012 zins. Nose of blueberry jam, vinegar, and vinyl (think of blowing up an air mattress). Tart cherry notes dominate a slightly bitter palette. Low tannin. Solid and unoffensive.

Deep colour of purple. Complex and big nose of plum, underlying red berries, some vegetal notes (celery), and zesty spice. On the palate it is dry, with a supple mouth feel and round tannins. Good viscosity and medium plus acidity with an extracted (but not over the top) profile. Flavours of fleshy ripe fruits (plum, cranberry), a bit of brown mushroom gravy, and just a hint of chocolate. The finish is lengthy and free from any overpowering oak, instead, with some herbal spice notes and lingering fruit. Very well-made wine!

Not your typical Zin blend... I actually like this wine due to its character and personality. I like that it is lower in alcohol content because it does not have the heat and imbalance of many Zins. This is a flamboyant, fleshy, and expressive wine that has both a great nose and lengthy finish. It has some herb on the nose that could be confused for the smell of marihuana. A very good wine.

Nice. While this trends toward what I would consider jammy, it's not too much so. Rich fruit, a little soft perhaps. It was a bit overpowering in intensity while seeming a little flabby, by itself, but when we served it with smoked chicken with some spicy barbecue sauce it worked pretty well.

Is there value in Sonoma Zinfandel (Chris H's home): Purple/ruby in color. The nose has black cherries, dust, and bit of floral. On the palate, this has sweet jammy fruit; black cherries. Quite soft. Easy to drink. Enjoyable though.

Very reliable zin. Purple with modest transparency. The nose is s little jammy with tobacco, red fruit and vanilla; very modest heat. The palate is donated by red fruit, a modest mouth feel and edgy acidity. I get a bit of cranberry on the finish. 5+12+16+8=91

This was beautiful -- so elegant and silky smooth -- especially to accompany our anniversary dinner at Mission Ranch, Carmel. Deep red hue with purple around the edges and spiderweb legs. Perfumed nose of spice, brambles and blackberry. Smokey, dusty notes on the palate to augment the refined cherries and blackberries. Great texture; medium acidity. Begs to be served alongside food. A lighter finish than you would expect, but that adds to the elegance of the entire experience. Paul Draper does it again -- and with an entry-level wine.

Finished after three nights or so. It's the bargain bottle of Ridge, so expectations should be low--heck, it's only $20 if you shop well. Still, rather pedestrian. Not voluptuous as a big Zin can be, but pretty hot for a mere 14.2% ABV (as declared) and not complex at all. I know Ridge has the rep for being the benchmark for Zin (unless you like the Turley over the top style), but I'd rate this behind Rockpile (Mauritson), Talty (admittedly a very different style), and--for the money--Matt Cline's work at 3Wines, with Live Oak and his field blends from CoCo county. Throw in Bella and you could fill you cellar with better wines for only a little more money, in some case a little less. Good, but not a rebuy. Lytton Springs remains the standout of the current crop of Ridge Zins, IMO.

Ridge's entry level, and their only multiple vineyard zin. Really complex nose, deep purple color. I believe this was produced to drink young, and it works this way for me. Rich ripe fruits with complex layers of earth mixed in well. perfect balance of acid and tannins. Finish a tad bit boozy and Rasberry. This may be their entry level, but its ready now and highly enjoyable. I feel bad for the people that over pay for Cali Cabs, when so many good producers are putting out awesome zins for a fraction of the price.

At a Ridge tasting. Nine of the ten of them were the same rich, dark purple, pretty color. One very old one was browning throughout, a couple of older ones showe a bit of brick at the rim. This one obviously didn't, looked quite young. It had more structure and backbone than the slightly older Geyersville that preceeded it. Nice, fruity nose. Big fruit and tannins on the palate, this seems like it could go some. Nice value for the money.

2015 ZAP trade Tasting. Nose of dark fruit, ripe fruit, touch of pepper and heat, more of the same on the palate, very well made and tasty, touch simple, think entry level zinfandel for $24 which is a bit much, medium/big body, and medium finish.

Tasted against amador county zin same price. At first, thought the Ridge sonoma much more concentrated, elegant. Good points remain concentration of fruit, balance of acidity and tannins and oak that is well integrated. Yet as others have said, crowd pleaser and basic so up the ladder in price range is next step.

I really like how Ridge does these blends with lower ABV and how the addition of the compliments, particularly the petite sirah, does a nice job of mellowing the fruit, rounding out the taste and adding a bit more complexity that many of the BIG fruit bomb, massive ABV offerings don't have. Great value at under $20

The wine was dark red in the glass. Seemed quite viscous with long, long legs. Very nice fragrance with deep aromas of red/black fruit and some black pepper. Same flavor profile on the palate. The wine seemed to be structured with good acidity. However, on my palate, this wine was sweet and syrupy, which for me, is an absolute deal-breaker. I did notice that on the second day, the wine seemed less sweet and I hope that the four bottles I have left will improve with a couple of years in the closet.....
This wine does have merit and surely there are many who will enjoy it. I just don't enjoy wines that are this rich.
Big thumbs up to Ridge for including ALL the ingredients on the label and for providing very detailed notes on their website, regarding the processes used to produce this wine. I will continue to buy their wines so long as they keep this aspect of their business.

Solid, balanced zin with a 14.2% ABV that is more than welcome in this era of jammy fruit bombs. Ripe fruit on the nose with a hint of oak, mint and rosemary along with the standard red fruit.

This wine stands out for it's bright acidity and freshness. Some zins these days are so port-like and overheated and syrupy. This one has a lightness that gives it a refreshing quality. I also appreciate the 14.2 alcohol level, which is low for a modern zin. This is a bit of a sleeper, especially given the price. Saving the rest for Thanksgiving, but it will be hard not to grab one before then.

This is a nice entry level offering from Ridge. Not a huge, high alcohol Cali Zin but rather a well balanced, food friendly Zin blend that drinks fine with or without food. Formal notes to come on later bottles as this was mostly enjoyed in a Red Solo cup while trick or treating with the neighbors and family.

Decanted for about 30 minutes, and probably needs another hour or two. At this point, the wine is dominated by red fruits and an olive tapenade profile. May be a flawed bottle (don't think so), but may just need more time or more air.
