Fantastic showing! Cerbaiona has always been more of a miss than a hit for me. But tonight it was showing in all its glory. This is pretty ready for prime time.

And elegant wine that is drinking well - was a bit closed in the beginning but really opened up and gave us a good experience. The fruit is cherries and plums also got tobacco and some spices - this is a well made and well balanced wine that deserves 93.

I chose this on Osteria Degli Spiriti’s wine list in Leece. Pop and pour. Nose and palate exhibited smoke, plum, liquorice, herbs, spice and graphite. It was very smoothe and elegant with medium plus finish. Drinking very well.

All 3 bottles DOA. Purchased from Benchmark Wine on 11/2/22. Similar to the comments below - All my 3 btls are stewey, cooked, disjointed. Buyer beware on the 09s.

Sangiovese study (Chicago, IL): I'm told this bottle wasn't representative, which is a good thing because this seemed to have turned and had become very volatile, and showed browning of the fruit.

Pop and pour, one day after taking delivery. Do I know how to properly care for, and serve, my wines, or what? Apparently I do, because this was singing from start to finish. I may have underrated it. In the glass, auburn-red. On the nose, a mix of cherries, smoke, and dark fruit. On the palate, rich and full of depth, with plums, cherries, fennel, oak, and a faint note of citrus, with a long, lush finish.
Are there individual bottles I've enjoyed more than this? Yes. From other producers, other varietals, and other styles? Sure. But I'm beginning to think that if forced to choose one producer in a desert-island scenario, Cerbaiona might well be the one. Consistent from vintage to vintage, approachable yet complex, great by itself or with food. What more can you ask?

DIY BYO Dinner - Notes from another taster (Amali, NYC): Minimal notes on this as tried forward the end of night. Poured from magnum. Still on the youthful side with dark fruits and quite a bit of grippy tannin, some earth and mineral notes on the back side. Good but less of an impression given it place in the line up for me.

DIY BYO Dinner II (Amali (115 E 60th Street, NY, NY)): Poured from a magnum. Just really much too young. Drank at the very end of the night and I thought it was maybe starting to open up just a bit, but definitely not there yet. More leather and wood than anything right now.

Incredible aroma of spicy clove-studded orange and expressive plum tobacco and cherry, but the really stunning thing here is the palate, which is sweet like water after an artichoke. And persistent.

Lovely nose, complex, leather, pepper, flower. In mouth young, little heat, pepper, cherry, dark half ripe berries, high acidity and tannins, but great balance with long aftertaste.

Medium ruby, this wine is marked by stunning aromatic complexity, with red currents, leather, spice cake and brioche all intermingled to create a beguiling and very appealing aromatic picture. On the palate, very balanced and long, lifted acidity, firm tannins. The finish lasts for a minute... Not at all like the 2010, which is far more fruit-forward, but lovely and classic.

Brunello Di Montalcino, A Fine wine Tasting hosted by Chris Pollington (Berry Bros & Rudd, London): Dark red in colour, some bricking. Red fruits with a herby edge on the nose. Touch of oak here? Quite a bit of tannin, good young ripe red fruit, Needs time for sure to evolve and just knocking on the door of its drinking time. Benefits from the forward vintage that 2009 was but still would benefit from some more age. 91 now and we would not pay 125£ retail for it though.

Cerebral. Tasty and one of the best brunellos I have had from a so-so vintage.

This vintage has soft tannins making it very drinkable now and there is plenty of complex red spices on the finish. A very good wine for the vintage.

Concentrated, rich, masculine, black currant, tannic. Lush. Younger than 08. It had less elegance and precision than 04,06, and 08.
