Decanted at 6:30pm and tasted over 5 hours with some left for a later date. Dark, nearly opaque garnet color with little to no sign of age. At first the nose was full of tarry and oak derived scents like vanilla and some char/smoke but this gave way over the first couple hours to a much more nuanced and perfumed nose. Lilacs, plum, licorice, cherry, baking spices and pipe tobacco abound on the nose at hour 5. Palate still has some lightly grippy tannin, plenty of acidity for continued aging and is equally complex and evolving over time with air. Getting more complex and elegant as time went on. Finish is very long with an emphasis on the vanilla and plummy notes. This is a much different (and better) wine after several hours in the decanter. Great with grilled steaks.

Improved since last bottle in 2016. Very good performance. Slow ox for 30min. Dark red/black'ish color. Opaque. Fruit, dark berries, spice, some complexity. Thick, jammy texture, very pleasent. Long finish.

Our last bottle....they've all been excellent and it was fun watching their evolution up to this point. For us, this particular wine peaked between 10-18 years of age. This last bottle seems to indicate to us that this wine has now firmly entered the late maturity stage, which is still excellent, just different - not as vibrant and youthful, but more mellow and 'earthy'. Still a joy to drink and should be for a few more years at least.

Rich, modern-styled. Good depth and has good balance. In a very good place right now and should hold here for a while. I'd prefer a little more Sangio character, but there's no doubt this is great drink right now.

Another great showing for this wine. Transported us back to Italy. Wonderful flavors and aromas. As always, great with food. It has developed secondary characteristics which just add to the complexity and enjoyment of the wine. One left, which we will probably consume in the next 2-3 years.

very nice Brunello. No decant. Dark red/black with a brownísh hue. Light brown/orange edge. Opaque. Nose was a bit restricted in the begining. Some fruit still on the palate. However more mature notes showed. Very delicate. Would have expected a bit more power from a 2001. Long finish.

Lovely wine and in it's peak drinking window. Very slight bricking on the edges, a touch of leather on the nose, full bodied but very elegant. A huge array of dark fruits (cherry, plums, currants), plus herbs, and spices. Great structure and balance, good acidity. A great food wine. Should easily drink well for another 3-5 years.

Lovely, well balanced modern style wine with nice fruit and oak on the nose. Color is dark garnet. On the palate there is lots of black plum, licorice, vanilla, earthy mushroom and graphite. Nice complexity and very chewy mouth feel. Moderately long finish. Lots of life left.

Drinking great now, but still plenty of tannins. Heavier bodied than most brunellos and tons of fruit and herbal notes (cherry, plum, currants, thyme, sage). Definitely italian. Good structure but needs a bit more time to integrate - will revisit in 2-3 years.

consistent with prior tasting in 2009. A little more integrated, very nice with a bison ribeye roast, asparagus, and papas bravas. Will probably hold for a while but doesn't seem like it will improve much more with additional age.

Popped, breathed in bottle 60 minutes, poured, followed over next 90 minutes. This was singing from the first sip. Shows a touch of French Oak influence, but it's acceptably subtle to my palate. Rich, complex, well balanced Brunello with a lingering finish. Drinking very well right now, but has the stuffing to age and possibly improve.

Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group - November 2010 (Suze, Dallas, Texas): Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of flowers, plums and berries. Good flavors of berries, Bing cherries and raspberries. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold but I'd personally hold. 92+-93-?

Ruby/rust on pouring. Decanted for about 3 hours prior to drinking. Had with barbecue ribs (herb/spice dry rub, somewhat spicy sauce with blackberry/red current base - homemade), grilled eggplants. Deep, brooding wine, medium-full bodied, very earthy with herb, leather, forest floor character. Really nice with the spices and sweetness of the pork and the earthiness of the eggplant. Fruit (dark berries) a bit more in the back compared with say, 1998. Will still improve over another 3-5 years (maybe more), and will probably merit a higher score then. Was also nice with a dark chocolate truffle cake for desert. 93 points.

Consumed side-by-side with a Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill 02 -- the Diamond Creek kicked its ass. Why? This wine has that wonderful Italian thing, which pairs perfectly with Italian food. However, the Diamond Creek was open and ready to go -- no need to wait. This is still very tanic and needs another 5 years. Do not open now. It has great, great potential. Lots of wonderful fruit and layers -- it simply needs time. 91 now, but much higher with more time. Please wait, and you will be rewarded.

SWILL Tasting - February 2008 (Wines of Tuscany): WIML93. Tasted February 29, 2008. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Slightly subdued nose at this time giving way to some notes of cherries, red licorice and some florals. Flavors of cherries, ripe raspberries, berries and a little white pepper on the medium to long finish. Medium to bright acidity, firm tannins, full body. Hold.

This wine was opened and decanted1 hour before consuming. At first it was a good wine, fine nose, but only had hints of what it became later. After 3 hours it finally added the complexity and grace a wine of it's price should have. Either give this one time, or give it 3 hours in a decanter.

Tasted August 5, 2006 at a retail tasting. Opened and served in a Reidel Restaurant Magnum glass. Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of black cherries, black berries, soft brown spices and pepper. Flavors of black cherries, red cherries, red currants and red berries. Medium acidity with medium tannins. Medium bodied as well. Please allow this one to sit in the cellar for 3-4 years before trying again. Based on my local retail price of $73.09 I’d say the value here is between acceptable and recommended but if you want to go out on the net and pick this one up for $59.95 according to wine searcher I’d say the value is then between recommended and highly recommended.
