Old Napa Wines Dinner (Joseph's Place, Wong Chung Hang, Hong Kong): Drank blind in a long line of old Napa reds. Deep and brightly jeweled ruby colour. Nose is immediately nicely lifted fresh but confit black and red cherries but it faded quite fast. Palate is really fresh acidity on entry and very head-expanding on the long and resonant finish but somewhat dilute, taut and green in the middle. Possibly down to individual bottle quality because the 1967 that Patrick brought with it was absolutely stunning.

At tasting. Brief note. Pours a slightly cloudy ruby red with medium bricking. Nose and palate show refined and elegant with baking spice laced red cherries, velvety red plum, cedar mulch, sandalwood, worn leather, traces of faint cigar smoke and sweet vanillin oak. Midpalate is incredibly well balanced and feminine with the baking spice seducing the velvety red fruits across your tongue alongside caressing gentle acidity and silky tannins that drive this to a long and very pleasurable and complexly layered finish. Gorgeous.
