Drank this KenV (Wineberserker) and the Albany NY crew. This wine has been burning a hole in my pocket the past month. Glad I was able to share with wine friends that 'get it'. Dare I say this still has life left in the bottle, so no rush.

This continues to be excellent, and is definitely one of the top QPR buys in Napa cab. I really like the single vineyard wines from Quivet, but no one should overlook how good the Napa bottling is every year.

The 2012 Quivet doesn’t look or drink like a 7+ year old wine. It pours deep purple and gives a bouquet of primary dark fruit and baking bread (which reminds me of visits to a barrel room). The plush mouthfeel and up-front fruit mask any tannins that might be lurking. Very tasty, if a bit straightforward at this point.
I saved half for day 2 and will follow-up if there’s been any evolution.

Day 2 shows more spice and pepper notes and more complexity emerging. There’s no drop off in the fruit, and the finish is long and reveals some of the tannins that were hiding on day one. To my palate, this is still a young wine and should have many good years of drinking ahead of it. Well done.

Napa Cabs by Luis - Part II (Jason's House): Decanted 5 hours (not my choice commenters!), the oak is very pronounced and there is alot of vanilla. This wine is more of a berry liqueur to me.

Aired for an hour before my first glass. This is one of the less expensive Quivet Cellars Cabernet, but is comparable to more expensive bottles. The nose is a wonderful balance of fruit, wood and leather. The body is full with a tannin finish. There's a bold woody bite, but not over-powering. Drinks well now - hope you can benefit from this review, it's my last bottle!

This is in a good place. Expressive nose of darks fruits and a bit of coffee. Mostly smooth palate, chewy tannins but in balance with the fruit. I think the fruit profile is a little darker than my last couple of bottles. Nice length on the finish. Solid.

I continue to rate this wine highly, strong wood nose and taste with spicey nose and finish. Decanted for 2 hours, drank at room temperature. Chili con carne for dinner!

At this stage, without decanting, this wine is massive and dense but not tannic. Lots of black and blue fruits and licorice but the flavors come off as a little bit one-note, one-dimensional. Not as nuanced as, say, the Ridge Estate Cabernet I had a couple weeks ago. I would say this wine still needs more time to settle down and it's currently not a great food wine, except with a juicy steak.

Decanted for 2 hours but actually needs a much longer decant as it was improving but never quite came together. Hiighly acidic with astringent tannins. Cranberry fruit with blood orange notes. Long but unpleasant finish. Was mellowing by the 4th hour. Some spiciness. No score as it just seemed too young.

Pretty closed upon opening and after 2-3hrs of air was still pretty shy on the nose. In a forward style, with ripe, concentrated black fruits on the palate. Quite lush and soft on entry. Has a long enjoyable vanilla and chocolate finish. Everything in it's right place with fine polished tannins only coming through on the finish. Very enjoyable in the typical (but balanced) Napa style. This Tastes Good -- but given the only moderate acidity/freshness probably one to drink over the next 5yrs (but the tannins argue otherwise).

Dark purple color. Big nose—oaky, vanilla, maybe, a bit of resin. Black currant on the tip of the tongue. Maybe a bit of milk chocolate. Maybe a bit of mint. Green wood and spice mid-palate. Clove on rear palate. Not too pucker tanning. Actually, tannin and acid are controlled and balanced. Incredibly drinkable now, but aging will yield more flavor integration.

The '12 Quivet Napa is young and very tightly wound, so decanting is a must. The Quivet is delicious and very fruit driven - loads of black and blue fruits. I actually wouldn't mind a little more oak, but it's certainly a fabulous and fun steakhouse wine. In my opinion, I think it is a little less balanced and nuanced than the '12 Myriad Napa.

Popped and poured, brooding deep purple/ruby. Nose shows a multi-faceted profile of fruit, with blackberry, blueberry, black currant, fresh cherry and even a hint of stone fruits along with florals, pipe tobacco and subtle spice. Moderate-plus body. On the palate, dang...this is redonk. Shows an incredible flourish of dark fruits along with hints of herbs, chocolate and spice from toasted oak plus a bit of heat. Huge flavors. Decent acidity keeps this from becoming close to ponderous and the tannins show a bit of astringency on a plus close, which just keeps going on and on... This is an awesome Napa Cabernet and despite being completely youthful is exceptionally balanced. And while absolutely delicious right now, this will just be incredible in 6-9 years and should last for quite a while longer.
Quick comment: Although perhaps a bit "larger" than what might otherwise be considered normal for Quivet (really, almost like a Myriad), this has just gotta be one of the best appellation Cabs that Mike Smith has made to date...so great!

Full throttle, medium to dark fruit, classic cassis, cooking spices, very nice structure and mouthfeel with some tobacco and smokey oak on the tail end.

Sweet. Oaky. Almost port like. Not sure why i open wines like this so young. Its fine, but I think my palate has shifted away from this kind of thing. And regardless, I should have let it sit for a few years to relax.

Popped and poured. A little austere upon opening but it started to loosen up within an hour. Nice dark fruit and a little fruit forward, but not excessively so.
The second night the fruit was more pronounced but not as forward. Does that make sense to anyone other than me? Fruit but not a fruit bomb.

1-1/2 hr decant. Lots of black and red fruits on the nose with some vanilla and spice notes. Fruit forward with cassis and blackberry, sweet spice and some tobacco. Delicious.

Decanted 2hrs. More narrow and a little more nuanced than the '12 Myriad. Currants and a little coffee on the nose. Palate is smooth and polished, just not as plush as the myriad. Plenty of concentrated currants with red fruit highlights giving it plenty of life and energy. Moderate finish adding a touch of coffee. This is a forward but balanced Napa cab I really like.

For a young wine, this is drinking beautifully. Dark fruits, some cherry, cedar and licorice. But the finish is where this wine stands out. Nice long finish that draws you back for more.

Notes from day 2. Dark fruit and cedar. Creamy dark berry, ripe blackberry, mocha, cocoa, chalky sweet tannins, white pepper dark plum. Great Napa Cab @ $50. 72 cases should sell out quickly.
