Kiawah 2022; 8/6/2022-8/13/2022: Holy crap. Dark coffee and chocolate, tea notes. So deep, brooding and complex. Desperately needs air. Some classic Châteauneuf notes, but clearly made in a modern Rhone ranger style. Sour cherry, balck raspberry, plum and fig. Tobacco. Heaven. Otherworldly. Would hold, but still beautiful. 2025-2045+

This was a pop and pour and a real treat to have an opportunity to taste. Thai was a full step up from other la in this category and hit on all cylinders. Powerful yet maintaining the Rhône elegance. Loved it!

Second time I’ve had this CdP immigrant and the thrill is still there. Not like any other CdP, no prunes here. Leather veil lifts to reveal smoked chestnut, mushroom smoke, delivered in a classic top shelf way but packing exciting nuances.

No formal note but this wine was decanted for 2 hours and enjoyed after that at the Plumed Horse. Great concentration and fruit purity, but I think it either needed a longer decant or more time in cellar.

Jailbreak Brewery restaurant opening SQN wine dinner with Justin Bonner (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): Expressive nose displaying rich black fruit, also a hint of red, blackberry jam, cherry pie, fruit cake, sweet spices, dark caramel and mineral. Excellent concentration, finely layered packed black and red fruit, bright acidity, good mineral presence and a medium black fruit driven finish. Shows better balance and fresher than the 10. Need another decade.

Dinner at Trelio (Clovis Ca.): (mag) 93% Mourvedre, 5% Grenache, 2% Grenache Blanc....opened in bottle for 8hrs.....DARK beast of a wine at first.....black coffee, cassis, blackberries....not as concentrated on the fruit as I thought it would be...really good dose of acidity really livens it.This gained and gained as the night went on....became richer and deeper in flavor...even brighter to the cherry side....but still this is a massive Mourvedre that shouldn't be touched for 10+ years.....still quite a treat to taste! Creme de cassis, black raspberry jam, scorched earth, exotic spice, licorice, tilled flower field.....maybe just a tad bit of forest floor...couldn't really find something screaming Mourvedre. Intrigued to try it again...as well as other efforts in the future....just wish it wasn't SO crazy $$$!
