Very fruit forward compared to the previous vintage (2011). Youthfully vibrant with terrific polish and aging. A bit of cherry cough syrup with some graphite notes and some stone fruit pit. This tight little bottle felt like its in prime time but can go for another 5 years with no worry. Drink

A really pleasant bottle with earth, cherry and blueberry notes. Ample acidity to balance a red sauce. Friendly enough to enjoy a glass on its own after dinner.

Like the 2011, this had a pale colour with significant browning. Muted nose, with oak and barnyard notes alongside dark fruit. Palate shows good structure: a silky mouthfeel, with no tannin but strong, focused acidity. Flavours of cherry, blackberry, and lemon, with hints of forest floor and truffle. Similar to the 2011, but not as earthy, complex, or interesting.

Cloudier maroon; impressive right off the bat showing a meaty savory quality with layers that most Brunellos would hope to have, sweet dark cherry and plum, spice; still young this could use a year or two to soften and gain that extra notch of harmony.

After reading some favourable reviews I thought it was worth broaching a bottle. Medium body with a dark core, fading towards the rim. Strong legs. The nose is quite deep toned, some cherry, but also some new leather. The palate has some fine tannin and medium + acidity, it's fairly savoury with a nice long finish for its level. Starting to drink and with a few years at least in hand

The Valdicava Rosso di Montalcino has a very pronounced floral nose on first opening. Colour in the glass is ruby red. After about one hour in the decanter, the wine is extremely smooth with very soft tannins, bitter cherry, light acidity and a slight residual sweetness, which all combine to create a lovey balance. One person round the table also detected hints of Hawthorne. This is almost as good as some Brunello di Montalcino's but not quite up to the level of Valdicava's offerings. Nevertheless this is excellent wine at an affordable price that can be drank now or kept another 5 years if you have the self-restraint.

The nose showed luxurious cherry, hard candy, spice, sweet herb and floral tones. On the palate, it was intense, yet sported silky and elegant textures with black cherry, spice and hints of cedar. It finished on dark red fruits and lingering fine tannin. There’s so much elegance here that it could be mistaken for an entry-level Brunello.

I was skeptical at first: it seemed a little sweet-fruited but the nose is actually somewhat faint/weak. Then on the palate there's quite a lot of cherry, dry brown leaf, vanilla, a little cream. It's truly drying in the mouth, with lovely savoury tannins

{Vin Italy, 2014} Typical brick red color, bright. Nose of dough, glue, dark cherry, balsamic; somewhat high-toned, with red floral accents. On entry, dry, tannic, fresh, with a pleasant underpinning of zest and build. High acidity, medium-bodied; finishes somewhat short, ultimately pretty unmemorable.

With 6 yrs in the bottle, this is a very good Brunello-like wine! The whole table liked it. I am going to go buy some more.

Nice light oak on the nose, pure fruits. Fairly light in body, but a pretty wine, with good balance of acidity.

More savoury than the 2011 and lacking a bit of charm. Still good value though.
