Jon's 50th Friday Night Dinner: Age appropriate, and once it opened up it was very good. A beautiful accompaniment to the smoked salmon, which amplified the wine greatly.

Jon's 50th Birthday Dinner: Opened for an hour. This took some coaxing to come around. A bit clipped and one dimensional at first, but with the gougères, it really popped and brought out the acid backbone.

In magnum. Sesame, tropical fruit and minerals on the nose. Palate was ripe with round yellow fruit with good power. The vintage’s ripeness overshadowed the wine’s acidity. A good chevalier but not up to Ann Leflaive’s best gig during this period.

AT Xmas. Takes time to build, but with an hour in the glass it's a powerful, flavorful and palate staining. Some initial off-odors suggesting TCA that blew off to reveal nuanced caramel notes.

The superb deep aromas suck you in with lemon, chrysanthemum, complex cool spices, almond nut and mineral w a touch of brûlée. So perfume! WOW, real wow. It coated the palate with layers of flavors, umami complexity yet so weightless. Pure silkiness. So sweet and saline, building up nicely on the palate with refined backbone. Crystalline focus and precision. Never ending finish with lingering soft spices. Simply superb. White wine couldn't get better than this. Zen like.

Wow, what an exemplary & aristocratic nose. Layered palate. Very fresh with a long finish. This was the white wine of the night as well as wine of the night (save for the port) for most...

Champagne and Burgundy Dinner (42 Grams - Chicago IL): Served in a great Chevalier flight. Ripe stone fruit with intense spice. Very rich throughout. Less textures and nuance vs the 1991 in the next glass. This was most interesting when first served, then seemed to get slightly shorter with more time in glass.

A Tribute to Anne-Claude Leflaive (Iggy's, Hilton Hotel, Singapore): The first of two wines made during the early years of Anne-Claude Leflaive’s tenure at the helm of the Domaine (the other being the 1992 later in the flight) – this was made in tandem with her cousin, Olivier Leflaive. You could clearly tell the difference between these wines and the ones that spanned the Anne-Claude / Pierre Morey years that followed, when the Domaine moved into organic than biodynamic wine-making in the mid-1990s. These earlier wines seemed rather warmer and broader, richer, but rather less intellectual – perhaps exchanging a bit of the intense drive and precision of the later wines with more deliciousness and generosity. I found them no less enjoyable or engaging though. The 1990 was a delicious wine. It had such a gorgeous nose, very floral and perfumed, with lots of yellow-fruited notes – pineapples, peach, a hint of kumquat, all packed together with little savoury tones of earth, white meat and boiled nuts. A rich, warm, very giving bouquet. Lovely stuff. The palate had a surprising amount of lovely, bright acidity for its vintage, with juicy, lemony streaks running through buttery notes and ripe red apple flavours, all suffused with a warm spiciness that filled the mid and back-palate. Really yummy stuff. While it did not have the same breathtaking dance of intensity and finesse that some of other wines had, there was certainly no lack of clarity and focus here, with the wine being held in lovely balance all the way into a rich, broad finish of honey, nuts and spices. If I could describe this wine in one word, it would be “delicious”. A really nice one, drinking well too.

From magnum from domaine. Jackfruit and wet rocks on the nose yield to a flatish palate with still noticeable acid. Lacks both the depth and breadth that I would expect from this wine.

This was drunk side by side with 1990 coche perrieres and I have to say this leflaive pipped the coche ( can't remember last time I said that) but this bottle was in great shape, wine was clean, had a great line to it , delicious buttery corn, a bit of leflaive gun smoke and very long

Leflaive vertikal: (Blind) Klar, gyllen gul. Fersken og marsipan på nese med svakt hint av oliven. Kjølig, stringent frukt med svært tørr og lett bitter utgang. Dør i glasset. Ox

Totally delicious wine - on the palate this shows amazing minerality and stony density, and sophisticated sweetness. A lovely wine but perhaps not the greatest complexity in a wine ever.

La Paulee Gala (New York, NY): Very mature and ripe fruit on both nose and palate, mostly stone fruit with some tropical hints. Very rich but not as intense and nuanced as a great Grand Cru should come across.

Awesome bottle! this just rocked. We had the 86, 89, and 99 in the afternoon and this bottle was the best of the bunch. This went up against the 90 Raveneau Les Clos and both were great but my preference was for the leflaive.

(Truffle Dinner, Dec. 1, 2006) Unbelievable bottle. One of the best wines I've ever had. Complexity, structure depth. This wine is firing on all cylinders. Profound.

Good texture and weight to this bottle. Some variability with these at this point, but this was in good shape.

Intact but a softer expression overall. Lacked the level of intensity that the '92 can still show. But good for a '90.

quite youthful still - hints of evolution only even though the material seems quite ripe. Holds up very well.
